new cobra owner...maybe

Hi everbody. Joined Club Cobra to get some insight. First of all, thanks for all the discussion. I learned a lot just reading many of your posts. Absolutely love the Cobra but only recently aquired the financial stability to be able to swing the purchase. I go back and forth on whether or not I'll ever be able to "pull the trigger." My frugal friends think I'm crazy...especially my classic corvette owner friend who keeps pointing out the fact that his car will be appreciating while mine will be depreciating.

Anybody out there have any insight on resale values of Cobra's in general? I know it probably has a lot to do with engine type, documentation, and build quality. Just trying to get an idea of best and worst case scenarios. Thanks for any input

high end cobras (very original) are pretty steady in their value, once the second owner buys it. Won't appreciate, but will hold value better than any new car.

Find a formerly rich guy looking to keep the power on. It's getting tougher now with the dot.bom craze over but check around. There are nice cars to be had for way too little money. Check e-bay... Be careful there (and everywhere else for that matter) www.clubcobra.com seems to have a ton of Superformance cars for sale. Look here as well. You will find car values somewhat higher here as we own better cars.

Be Patient. I first looked at my car in Sept. If you can wait until December to buy a roadster people who haven't sold may be getting desperate. If it looks too good to be true it probably is.

That said you have come to the right place. There are people here who will look at your potential purchase and give you an unbiased opinion, help you through the registration process, help you find insurance, etc. etc.

You can spend $25K for a nice Cobra... after five years it could be worth 20K or 30K. If it's only worth 10 K after five years that's not too bad.. If it's worth 30K after that length of time then that would be a good thing...

Frugal=boring

I'm sure your friend has a lot more tied up in that Corvette than you'll have in your Cobra.. Take them both to a show and see who gets all the attention...

Cobra=fun

I've had two Corvettes over the years and they were fun - but not like this Cobra...

It takes every muscle in my face to keep from smiling all the time and looking simple when I'm driving that car...

You're not going to loose any money buying a low end Cobra and it'll give you all the thrills and chills...

I have repeatedly parked my Mobra (modified cobra

) at sports bars, next to other classic cars and corvettes. There is no comparison as to which car gets the attention. I have watched my car, parked just outside the window several times from inside, ( playing pool ) as a (nice and new) Z06 was totally ignored (two parking slots away) while my machine gathered small crowds. I never expected this sort of attention, but it's fun to watch the looks and answer the questions . By the way , you can certainly spend 80 to 125 K on a top end cobra replica.. just don't expect it to be an "investment" unless as previously stated, she has already depreciated by having a previous owner.

Have yet to see any Corvette--classic or otherwise--command the price that a classic Cobra would

'Vettes are ordinary--unless you can afford a '63 spilt window BB or something similar the Cobra replica well built will give you more grins per mile and turn more heads and involve you in more conversations than any 'Vette may ever do--

I've owned two Vettes and neither compares with the Cobra--

Guess it all boils down to if you consider it an investment--mine's not financial it's a "fun factor"
