here we go,,I respectfully dissagree Randall,the buyer ALWAYS dictates the sale price,normally a sellers price is dictated by what a willing buyer will pay,thats why we have end of year rebates on new cars,they pull it out when they have to,but as long as cars are moving at retail,no discounts,when there are no willing buyers,the seller has to lower his price to sell,and vise versa,when money flows,the price goes up,until the market is "whored out" to coin and old car business term,when that happens we lower the price and start over..my years of car sales taught me that.
I do see your point though,only thing is mustangs dont move me,I wanted a cobra and bought what I felt was the best ,all things considered.

That would be a self consuming question... however, if the buyer does not sell, then the purchaser will have to pay more. Who dictates the market is the one that is desparate... buyer or seller..

If the market is infiltrated with cars, then usually the seller is more motivated and it becomes a buyers market. But if all the sellers refuse to take a loss, then the motivated buyers tend to pay more to get what otherwise can not be gotten.

I would still say the sellers have the edge in "controlling" the market price while the buyer has the influnce on affecting that price.

To prove that point, all it would take is for everyone to simply raise the price of their cars and not sell for a penny less and watch the market go up. Less cars will be sold, sure, and it certainly would be difficult to get desparate sellers to all agree especially when one of those knows if he and he alone drops below the norm even a bit, he's got an instant sale! Then others follow and we're right back to where we started.

Is this the origin of the term "vicious circle"?

I see your train of thought Randall,in a perfect world. but in the real world,those who sell cars ,HAVE to sell cars to live,just as people who sell anything else you can think of,so they do what they have to do,,your right about the buyers market,the more cars ,the less a seller can get,because the buyer has more options,the buyer still sets the price ,it would be great if we could just hold out and refuse to sell,but then that vicious circle would cease to exsist,,when there are fewer cars/more buyers,the seller can hold out for more because a buyer will pay more in tis situation,I am gonna stop this ,as usualy we're getting way off the original point,which was the future resale of 1 of maybe 1000 sai cars versus a zillion other replicas,,Tk

Tim, I understand your thoughts, but remember to differentiate normal production daily drivers from the specialty cars we're discussing. I was specifically addressing the "collector value" and "investment" aspect of these cars.

Most likely, those buying "higher end" or more expensive replica's, real or unreal, most likely will not "have" to sell their car one way or another, or at least the majority won't. They will *choose* when and if they want to sell. Therefore, dictating the price of that level of car, as long as the majority concurs, and the car is unique enough to be differentiated from the rest. Ultimately, the seller then controls that market, to some degree.

This lends creedence to what I said before in that if you are making an investment out of your car purchase, make sure it is already a valuable one before you get it. Most replica's of any nature can not be expected to stand the test of time in a collectors market for investment value, however, it may. And even then, hope for the best, since that's all you can do.

I totally understand why you bet your money on the shelby, I would too.
I think you and randall are saying the same thing ......but somehow disagreeing on the terms..It takes two people to make a sale.
In a car market where the vehicles are usually perfectly maintained and the average Cobra has a couple thousand miles on it, The manufacturers must compete with the used product already out there for sale. There are no "new models" to temp with. then the manufacturers also have a serious base line of costs ,below which they can not survive. I would argue that the Cobra market is only so big ,and with almost all of the replicas ever built still on the road , there has to be an eventual "softening" of the market accross the board, Some of the manufacturers are likely to fail as well,

I agree the retail passenger market is different,maybe we are both right,I do think a decent 40k sai car will cause the folks selling other cars for the same money to adjust,since a willing buyer would most likely buy the shelby name over whomever if the money difference is taken away,thats sort of where I was going,the buyer will set the market price,you can bet the price will fall until they sell enough cars to survive.the guys who made the real investments were those who bought a car no one wanted for 7k in the 60's and kept them a bit,I saw a small simularity with the african sai cars,I got in 4 or 5 k under what the retail should be in a a short time,and hopefully that will appreciate some,buying a high end older car and paying top price is a gamble too,since I agree the economy greatly dictates the value,remember the 750k 427's ?,anyway,I got what I can maybe afford and what I want to drive,so all is well hopefully,lets drop this crazy subject,,respectfully,Tk

don't forget , color fits into the value equation , as well as how many CUPHOLDERS it has ! yep, cupholders determine the value and collectability transcending into real value, or perceived as such. then it is a 'plus/minus' listing of does it have: mudflaps, whitewall tires, a bobbing head on the dash, curb feelers, suicide knob on the steering wheel, GPS etc. hey, this post is going nowhere, like so many others here ! anyone for carbon fiber ? FLUSH ! bill.

after reading and replying to post in the am,,I spent the afternoon TRYING to buy cars to resale,so the best investment I have made in a while is this 12 pack of ice cold coors lite beside me,,I agree with whomever said it,,lets flush this thread,,so,,whats cooking for NEXT summer ? lol Tk

Whenever I see these threads (Sadly...there have been more than a few lately) I laugh my butt off ! I commend the guys who really read each response because I could actually get all cranked up just skimming them ! But I don't. I love my Cobra replica.
I enjoy other folks who have the same interest no matter what they drive. I equally enjoy just the car...me alone on the road. We all know the Shelby CAV will impact on it's intended targets
in the market. Even the loyalists to their product will go to the Shelby name and quality for the price they are asking. That's the bottom line. I think FFR will be the least effected. That is my personal opinion and that too may change as new manufacturers emerge. But I will always enjoy my car and will always get back on my investment. But the attitude of forum is changing..Yup. Big Time. Smells like Paranoia.
