Default oil pressure gauge question

Finally got my water temp gauge problem worked out(bad sender),now it appears my oil pressure gauge is malfuntioning. It has read 50-60 lbs from the beginning and today it will not budge from 25 lbs, with switch on or off.Any thoughts?AlsoI got rid of my ammeter and bought a voltmeter(SW).On the back one post is labled with a +, the other post labled with a I. I thought one should be negative- and the other positive +.In my mind the I would stand for ignition and assumed to be the positive hot wire. What gives? chuck

Doc I think that you may be looking at it on it's side? It should be + and -...

Chuck,

I agree with Pat, take the + wire and hook to +. Take the other and hook it to - or l. Then watch it work, or get ready to arc weld Just kidding. Do a quick turn of the key or whatever you use to trigger voltmeter, worst case should spike in reverse and then correct wires. I have traced essentially all the wires on mine if you want to call me for the colors of my voltmeter wires, feel free. Excelguru knows how to get me live in case you don't.

Default SW Voltmeter

The SW voltmeter needs a separate ground wire for the gauge light to work. The negative terminal on the back of the gauge is insulated from the gauge housing so the gauge light is not automatically grounded like the other SW gauges. Just run a separate graund wire to the housing.

Chuck, if it makes you feel better...Smiths have no markings whatsoever. I was playing with my voltmeter today, cogniscent of your post and looked for markings. They must have been "optional" They do have a diagram showing the dashlight socket in the middle and make a point of showing +12 and ground right and left. Do a quick battery hook up to validate what you see.
