Default Hmmm new car? Before winter?

Whats up im new to the forums, found them in my journey for a new car. But my question is basically how well would a cobra handle in the winter with a GOOD pair of snow tires on them? Im not talking about alot of snow since ill mainly be on highways that are maintained pretty well. Im really not worried about the rust thing as there are ways to prevent that, but no ways to prevent snow and ice. So far it looks like it will be a new GT, or hopefully an older COBRA, as thats all i can afford right now. So if you guys have any advice, other then the get a 100$ car for the winter, please let me know.

snow+cobra=impractical. so my advice is ; park it in the winter . allow extra $ in your budget for a winter beater/driver. too much torque to screw around with. bill

I share Bills opinion.

I've owned a Miata and had it through a couple of 'southern' winters. It was light weight, rear wheel drive and no significant torque and I found it too much for a winter daily driver.

A beater Jeep, pick-up, or SUV is winter practical and summer smart to haul your s**t. It doesn't have to be a beauty queen, it too can be a project!

You could always take the tires off of your cobra, and mount the "caterpiller type" track system that you can get for a pickup. I think they have a knock off adapter as well. It should be OK in the snow.

Default Not a cobra, but a Miata was great.

I had a Miata once as a company car and it damn near killed me the first snow. But once I put pirelli mud and snows on all four wheels it was great! It'd go anywhere, and do great donuts if I wanted to. I never got stuck (typical Iowa winter) but ground clearance made high centering something to watch out for.

P.S. I think the guy is talking about a mustang cobra not a cobra roadster. I think you found the wrong forum

anthony, you have it right on...LOL..

cobra mustang is easy if that is his car in question, just put Bridgestone BLIZZAKS on ALL FOUR corners mounted on spare/cheap Crown VIctoria police car steel wheels and you will be surprised at how well the mustang gt or mustang cobra will perform in snow. just be careful of heavy dry road usage as the tires will wear quickly in those conditions. been there /done that.

for you guys with the miata comments, thanks..i have been contemplating getting one but was concerned about its light weight/lower clearances and handling in snow which we get too much of here in the winter. think i will pass and keep my 4wd sport trac, just wanted something more fun but practicality wins i guess..so no miata for me now.

rich...been there in the snake too on a 'must get there' mission, the car on the snow was a handful, an oily skidaroo venture, suicide ice skates on the highway. could not get it parked fast enough as ya still cant be light enough on the throttle and the tires don't bite, they skate ! bill
