Thanks for the replies. Many good points.
Yeah. I was thinking of getting rid of the CSX for a 996TT. They are truly gorgeous and awesome to behold.
Many good points. I don't think the 996TT would ever see a trailer, however, since it is a car you can really use.
Every time I think of making the change I just look at the Cobra and change my mind again.

twin turbs is a lot more than 39000, but maybe you could get a 996 replica made from an older 911, they look pretty good buddy. I'm looking for a cobra reall1 , is yours fiberglass or aluminum real one ? What engine ?
I have found an steel or aluminum car that has been painted like dark gray fiverglass for some reason that I have been trying to figure out.

Evan, I have re-read this thread. I now understand for all this time what was wrong. You did not own a TwinTurbo? It all makes sense now. If you need to ask, send me a PM to TC@clubcobra.com. Boy oh boy do I feel bad. REAL 1 looks at his Shelby and dreams of Twin-Turbo Porsches on occasion. Where did I go wrong?

I am one of the guys who appreciates both. I have a couple of older hotrod Porsches: an '88 cab with a '96 993 Euro-Varioram 3.6 motor and a '71 with a '79 euro 3.0 motor (each is about a 40-50% increase in hp and torque over stock and each has updated suspension and brakes). I will admit that the newer models don't do it for me: too refined and they look like a bar of soap that has been in he shower for too long. However, the old German hotrods are only slightly more complex than a Cobra (each is essentially 1950s fundimental design). They are rough, simple and fast. They actually do work every day with very little fussing. To be honest, my KMP is not yet done, so I cannot compare the two brands, but I will say the guys who like hotrod older Porsches are not too different than the guys who like Cobras. In fact, I showed the the KMP stuff to the guy who did the engine swaps and all he mods to my 911s, and he thought it was way cool.

Being that 427 Cobras and Porsche Turbos are arguably the two all-time accelleration kings, this question is a natural.
I noticed that much of the argument in favor of the Porsche is based heavily on practicality. In what way does "practical" have anything to do with dropping 100 gr on a car? I totally admire the Porsche thing: go as fast as you can, as easily as you can. And for what that car can do compared to the super exotics, it is a steal . . . I guess. But let's face it, we're talking toys. Ain't nothing logical 'bout cars that cost as much as the average American home! I'll take the CSX, but only for this reason: If you're going to do something as conspicuously consumptive as buying a car with a mortgage-sized payment, why use logic when deciding between two completely illogical choices? At least if you go with the Cobra, you're consistently illogical! If you've got both, god bless you in your flaunting of practicality and incedible taste!
Seriously, though, if I ONLY had 120K to throw down on toys, I'd say get a Z06 for the weekday commute AND a nice SPF with a really nasty stroker (or ERA BB) for the weekend! That's having your cake and eating it, too!
P.S. Newbie here to CC, go easy on me.

EVAN-I'll believe it when I see it, even cut off of my finger. I'm very disappointed in you. Not that I don't like Porches. It's just that they are dime a dozen.

I just think the CSX would retain its overall value better. No doubt the porche is a wonderful everyone wants one car but like Jamo said in a few years it'll just be a used Porche. In a few years the ole chichen farmer will pass ( hopefully not to soon, I wish that to no one) and the CSX will at leasty for a short time will be priceless. Of coarse the prices will readjust just as the stock market does but for a time they will be the hottest commodity on four wheels.
Keep the CSX Evan, better in the shrot and long term

WHICH ONE
As an owner of both a 97 TT and an SPF they are both very different cars. The TT is fast and handles well at high speed and can be driven anywhere. The cobra is more exciting. It may not handle as well but I find it more fun to drive. When I go to the garage on a nice day I usually choose the Cobra. Don't choose the Cobra if you want to stay low key. Driving down a city street is like being in the Thanksgiving Day Parade. EVERYBODY LOOKS. The TT is recognized only by Porshephilles.
P.S Neither has much of a trunk

Evan,
If you ditch the Cobra and get the Porsche, you won't be able to debate whose ride is the most original, most real, most accurate, etc., etc. anymore. What fun would that be?
Plus, unless you at least get a GT2 or GT3, or better, one of the new supercar GTs, you won't have the highest expression of the breed. You'd be like an FFR guy in the Porsche hierarchy.
I don't see that happening. It wouldn't match up with your neuroses. Do yourself a favor, keep the CSX---it's more you.

Evan,
Trade that replica of yours in for a real Twin Turbo. You won't regret it.

MysteryTrain: Head down to the theaters in La Canada at the 2 freeway on Saturday mornings; usually four replica Cobras, and usually an original Cobra for something different!! 7 to 9 A.M.

The new Porsche GT2 Twin Turbo has a MSRP of $181,700. Someone would pay that much for a CSX4XXX series?
Seems Dan's CSX4XXX car sans engine went for around $89,000. And that seems really high in today's market. A 427SO is obtained for ~$30k, so, are these cars really close in price?

Edley,
Thanks for the tip, neighbor! That's funny, because I hike up on the mountain fire trails above Honolulu Ave. every Saturday and a couple weeks ago I spotted a royal blue/white cobra w/ red rookie stripe rumbling down toward the theaters. From a mile away I guessed it was a SPF w/ stroked small block. Now I can see if my ears were right. I'm out of town this weekend, but I'll make it part of my Sat. routine for sure.

WHY IS IT THAT FFR IS SO LOOKED DOWN UPON HERE??? i ask because ive been trying to figure out which replica to purchase, and i really dont see what is wrong with FFR, yet time and time again, i hear it on this site??...i am truly looking for genuine answers here, if i were to build an FFR, it would be NON DONOR, with big block, with all the nice goodies,.......not a thrown together heap, which ive seen, but ive seen other makes that were pretty damn ratty to boot....thanks for the help as always.....

Rem,
You're joining this conversation in mid-stream. There's a lot of history here. It's not intended as a knock on FFR. More tongue-in-cheek. Often on this forum, the personalities are the REAL issue, not the cars.

There is only 1 answer
Evan,
If even thinking Porsche -
There is ONLY ONE for YOU - a 959.
Porsche only made 226 of these beasts, and you can now make one legal in the USA thru Bruce Canepa in Santa Cruz.
Just think you could be buddies with the likes of Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Ralph Lauren, and a few chosen others.
All you have to do is get up off your hip for a mere $400K.
No more replica talk, or whose is more correct, just pure fact.
Send Pix when done.

Evan.
You came close to making a wise decision once. Now follow through!
You have a CSX and a Hog as two toys in your garage. You want a Porsche but can't justify a third toy. Don't want to part with the CSX...OK.
Winter is upon you, the HOG won't get much use for the next 5-6 months.
Send me the bike, I will send you my 930 Turbo. You will still have only two toys in the garage and won't have to look back to why you ever got rid of the CSX.

Rem,,,,FFR makes a fine car. Even Evan has stated he wouldn't mind having one for racing duty, and I concur! Some Cobras cannot be compared to others, they are simply worlds apart in their fundamental design, cost, fabrication etc. I own two, one of which I would NEVER consider putting on the race track, it's more of a "show car". The other is a daily driver AND I race the heck out of it.
acaskie makes a very good point about it all.
