Yes. Ben at Smeding built a Ford short block for me a few years back. It ran okay for me, but the guy that bought my car ended up having some issues and questions about the engine later. Unfortunately, Ben chose not to inspect the motor for the new owner, and he was not able to explain why he removed the former high-volume oil pump and replaced it with a standard, low volume, low pressure one on an FE. Also, he use to do service work on cylinder heads for my former Toyota wrecking/recycling yard. On the mainstream stuff he does okay, e.g. SBC, 383 strokers, etc. However, after the way he treated the guy that bought my car I certainly could not recommend him to anyone here. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give him a 6. When he rebuilt my short block, he kept my .030 (barely used) forged pistons and did not return them after I specifically asked him to keep them for me. He said he threw them away! Ignore the hype and marketing at the shows... a good motor builder usually has plenty of work and needs little or no advertisement. Hopefully Ben will figure out what referral means.
If you're Galaxy needs an FE rebuild, go see Tom at FE Specialties, he is in CA 916-339-0427.
