Default Thanks to everyone!

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the good information I have recieved over the last couple years. I have sold my Unique & bought a GT1 Corvette. The Unique was great, but I couldn't get my racing fix without messing up the beauty of the car. You guys helped me more than I can say with advice & entertainment. I'll check in from time to time.

Dave,

How does it feel on the "Dark Side"?

The roof over your head is probably a good idea for serious racing, though. I'd be curious to hear your engine specs.

550 HP 358 Chevy. It is a de-tuned Winston Cup engine. 11.5:1, 0.65 lift cam, roller everything, dry sump, etc. The body is removable. It weighs 2780 lbs. It has 24 hrs Daytona, 12 hrs Sebring, & more history.
Season is done for the year up here. I will do a lot of track time & schools next year & in 2005 go vintage & SCCA racing.

The car is in really good shape. It is a 1972. It has been a racer since the frame left the factory.
The driver needs a lot of work though. Maybe after I get enough practice, I'll attempt to attend one of the Club Cranky functions & see how it holds up against those experienced Cobra drivers.

Isn't that one the Greenwood Vettes?

I remember the Paul Revere 250 IMSA race in 73 or 74 at Daytona where John Greenwood was running one of his cars and I was running a Camaro that looked about as much like a Camaro as your car looks like a Vette. (The Camaro was a tube frame car and I think that John's was as well.)

The Camaro was able to run over 200 down the back straight and Greenwood drove right by me in practice.

We were both faster than the Monzas at that race. (They were driven by one of the Unser brothers and M. Andretti) (They also protested both Johns car and ours for not "meeting the spirit of the rules". I bet that they would not of done this if they were quicker.)

My Co-driver broke the gearbox in the warmup for the race so we did not run. (Bummer, I was really looking forward to having a go with the boys that day.) But that happens when you downshift into 1st instead of 3rd entering the infield.

One thing, the IMSA cars in those days were very serious pieces.

Congrats on getting that piece, you should a lot of fun with it. (I wish I had that old Camaro now, It would be great sport in vintage racing.)

Richard,
The car was not built by the Greenwoods. It was built by one of the Greenwood dealers from Long Island. His name is Skip Panzarella. He raced the car for years. It has been raced all over the country. I bought the car from it's 3rd owner. It is a Greenwood body wrapped around a tube frame very much like the Greenwood cars. There were only about 12 of the "official" Greenwood race cars built over the years. Even though the car is a 1972, it has been running around 2nd & 3rd in the national SCCA GT1 races, against the modern cars. It has adustable everything as far as the suspension goes. The only drawback is that I can't get rid of the single leaf spring rear because of the historic thing. I need to work on my driving more than the car anyway!

BTW, any ideas on where I can get a hold of BFG tires from the BFG Trans Am series?
Supposedly they are still very grippy, but hold up better as far as wear. They are supposed to be a lot more forgiving as far as flat spotting goes. I'd rather not pay $1000 for a new set of Hoosiers for each track session.

Dave,

I do not know where to obtain the BFG's. But I could inquire with the shop beside JBL who builds TA chassis and see if they know.

Transam Jim probably will know as well.

But the TA cars run 12X16 fronts and 13X16 rears. Do you have these wheel sizes?

Richard,
I have wide five 16" x 11" rims on it now. Front tires are 13" wide & the rear are 14". I think that the BFG's will be my best bet for next year while I work on my driving. At Gingerman raceway they have track days a couple times a week where you can get out there & test for $60 a night. I also have a set of 15" rims for the VSCDA vintage regulations. My plan is to get a lot of seat time next year & go racing in 2005. Like I said, the car is much better than I am. Let me know what you think. I respect your opinion.
Also I'd appreciate any help you can give me on finding a place to buy the BFG's.
