Hal reports in on the wife's Jaguar
This past spring, i asked here for opinions on Jaguars, the AWD X series in particular. Got lots of information and opinion. Bought one, had it delivered as a total suprise to my wife, when she was at a nursing conference in Atlanta in May, for our 25 th wedding anniversary. She was stunned. I got her the sports model, 3 liter, sports package, sunroof, stability handling option, and not much else. Paid $38K for it, listed at about $41 K or so.
It is silver, they call it platinum. I want to tell you all that this is one fabulous car. I love it myself, but rarely get to drive it. It handles incredibly well, i had never driven a modern sports sedan, and with the AWD, even on a wet road, it just hauls and sticks. Great brakes. My wife loves the power, when it gets rolling, she easily dusts off lots of cars trying to merge in front of her.
Thus far, dead reliable, now has 11500 miles on it, i have changed the oil four times, running a Canton/Mecca race oil filter on it.
My wife just flat hauls on the back, very rural roads of SC. I have ridden with her driving, on roads with signs for 35 mph corners, she just slices thru them at 75+ mph, no drama at all. This is a woman who has driven minivans for the past 15 years.
Anyway, a very handsome car, very reliable, gets lots of looks. Many nice touches.
Thanks for the advice this spring. A very happy Jaguar customer. I wish they made an R model of this car.

Hal,
Glad you like your Jag so much. June of 02 I went shopping for my wife a new car and she had decided on the Jaguar or the Lincoln LS. I really wanted her to buy the Jag but she fell in love with her V8 Lincoln LS. Load of power and an excellent handling vehicle. Don't get me wrong I love her car but I would have like for her to buy the Jag. There is just something about the leaping cat on the hood that I really like.
I remember as a kid in California my dad had a green and white Pontiac with a lighted Indian on the hood. Too Cool! I notice you are not following the owners manual either on your oil changes every 5000 miles. Me either.

Those posted "suggested" speed limit signs for curves are meant for Grandma, they always "under rated". A lonely road, a nice set of curves, the throttle down, feel it as you lean into the corner. Heck thats what it's all about man!
Thanks for the up-date on the Jaguar Hal. I do recall when you were putting that deal together. Sounds like the wife is very happy indeed with your choice, ya done good!

Hal,
I am not lucky enough to have a Cobra, but I do have a Audi A6 2.7T Quattro. It is too heavy to be quick, but it is a great road car. AWD is so nice, especially when you live in Colorado. The modern "sport" sedan has come a long way in the last 10 years. Performance, Handling, Safety, and the ability to haul the family around in style.
A buddy of mine just purchased an Audi with the twin turbo V8 - 475 HP. Great car but for $85K I would rather have a Kirkham or CSX. After all, no matter how nice your family sedan is, it is just a car.
Thanks for the Jag info.

Jaguar
Hal,
I remember putting my oar in when you were thinking about getting a Jaguar X type, I'm glad you have not been dissapointed.
If its any consolation I too am terrified when my Mrs starts thraping my Jag S type as she also likes to speed. In fact some evenings coming back from the pub I am sure she ( as the designated driver) gives the car some welly just to stop my drunken rambling monologues and to sober me up before we get home !!
Cheers,
Tony

That is one nice car and I really wish I had one. Thanks for the information on the speed signs at curves. I always thought they meant the minimum speed for the curve so you woudn't get hit from the rear end by someone going faster.
