Dragon Motor Cars talkin' smack about Run & Gun 2003
Straight from the Dragon's mouth in an email to me today... I won't say which of the four drivers sent this, but these guys are talkin' some pretty serious smack about Cobra entries at Run & Gun this year. ' ' Just passing it along. Good Luck to all!.
Quote from Dragon John Doe:
"FOUR, count 'em, Four Dragons will be out killing Cobras at Run & Gun on St. Louisville, Oct 16-19. Hopefully, there will be enough carnage that only Dragons will be featured in Kit Car Magazine. Dragons Rule, Cobras drool." John Doe
Look for the Yellow, Blue, Ruby, and Black Dragons this year. They say the "The Dragons are coming, The Dragons are coming"
Anyone going in a car that can take these guys overall? Any JBLs going? All tough-guy remarks welcomed here!

U.G.L.Y.
I don't know about Run&Gun, but damn, those things is jes putrid ugly! Even if the driver does out run some Cobras, the poor sap still has to be seen in that thing. Moslers and Dragons should be given 2 second penalties for visual pollution. Leave it to Chevy guys . . .

If you wont to go faster. And use the cobra formula. the only things you can do is lower the body profile and improve the balance by making the car longer and wider. If you don't care what it looks like you can tack it to extremes and give the body some down force. The only please you can beat one of those cars is on the auto cross where skill maters. and the standard Cobra short wheel base wont hurt you. And the lower speed wont allow the Dragon to utilize it, s down force advantage. The Dragon is a different class of car and should be in the same class as the Panos car. Now if you had one of theses Baby's. Bill E

The secret of the Dragon is the use of the Corvette suspension. Designed by an army of well paid GM engineers. The car is basically 1000 lbs lighter than a regular C-4 Vette. . Most Cobra suspension systems aren't up to the task. The Rea boys owned R+G a few yeas back with a Vette suspended E-M, Chuck Beck killed the Cobras last year with the Lister(looks like Dragon copied Becks car, with just a little customizing). If Dragon brings in some ringer drivers they will kill the cobras this year.

THANKS ALOT!!!!!
Decooney Thanks for throwing a grenade into the beehive of Dragons. You may not like the way they look but at 2100 lbs with small block Chevy and late model corvette suspension THESE cars are quick. I have finished twice behind them in autocross and road course. There top speed is 150+. I was hoping to sneek up on them this year with better driving and tires. John C. is the owner of Dragons Inc and if he is yapping he has upped the aunty for racing this year. I was .3 behind him on a short course looking to fix that this year. PLEASE LEAVETHE DRAGONS ALONE. After R&G then you wolves can have dinner I hope. Rick Lake thanks again for the crap storm

A bomb, not a gernade......
With a "tuned" C4 vette weighing in at 1800 or so lbs, and a small block chevy pumping 600HP, and any good low profile body, there not a COBRA I know of that will or can beat it in all sessions. The fellas with the good motors, or good suspensions, do not thrash them like you can a cheap chevy set up.

Just an opinion
Re the >>>With a "tuned" C4 vette weighing in at 1800 or so lbs
I don't "buy" a Dragon with a C4 and its suspension would weigh anywhere near 1,800 lbs. In fact it would be more like 2300 minimum. I could be wrong but I think they must have a scale at Gateway.

Justa6,
I seriously doubt they could get "Fat Boy" anywhere near 2300 pounds! I say, 2700 at best! And whats with the automatic?
By the way, hows that little V-6 doing these days? I haven't seen you post your latest 1/4 times lately.
NOTE: I hate it when you do, it's embarrasing to the rest of us you know.

Beauty is only skin deep but those dragons are ugly all the way to the bone. YUCK!!! Vaguely reminds me of the old Bradley GT. Ouch! How can you drive with a bag over your head?

The two parked at the gas station are tastefully done and look quite stunning, IMO. The other two aren't for me, however.

1800 lbs dry,
The DRAGON, with the racing chassis, alum vette C4 suspension, ultralite brakes, ally 350 stroker, ally flywheel, lightweight body, and such, you bet 1800 lbs dry!
Have an article on just that car proposed and being built, with all the weights per item from a previuosly built DRAGON. Do not know if this car will makes this years event, but on one of the forums I copied the guys "build" on the car tio blow everyones doors off when he finishes he. It didn't state his driving ability, that's up to speculation.

We are talking Road Race when you mention "blowing our doors off" right?
If its drag racing you've got the wrong suspension (IMO).
Anyway we'll see how it all plays out this coming week. Should be fun for all... Hope so anyway.
Excaliber asked about the "mini" motor's times. Actually its been off the road for a long time as I've been getting it new brakes, etc. The last time we ran it (broke the driveshaft) it ran a 10.83 @ 123. Did NOTHING to the motor (same old Holley) but knocked a few pounds off it with some Wilwood brakes. Also going to run a taller DOT slick at R & G. I figure it will probably do "one thing or the other"

I know it's never pleasant to contemplate that there might be other cars out there that are faster or better handling than our Cobras. The Dragons, Grand Sports, Ultimas, can give most Cobras a run for their money, and then some. The Cobra is 40 year old technology, and it's understandable that higher tech cars may be superior in certain areas.
I like the powertrain of the Dragon, because that's what I have in my Cobra, but the body IMHO, is "an acquired taste, from 2 blocks away, you know it's a kit car. The Cobra, on the other hand, has one of the most endearing, and gorgeous bodies in automotive history, it's rolling art.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Cobras duking it out with the rest of the cars at RNG. I hope many of you can make it.

The future...
All of this is really exciting when thinking about it. Several of these replicas and kit cars that we see today didn't exist not too many years ago.
It amazes me sometimes how there is quite a selection of high quality replica Cobras, Listers, Dragons, Speedsters and with new technology and parts available to the dreamer who wants it bad enough. And, here come the psudo SuperCar replicas like the Ultima, CanAmExotic, SM200 and everything in between coming out. Heck, 20 years ago I was struggling just to find a used tach and console gauges for my 68SS Camaro and dreamed of a new parts replacement someday. Pretty amazing what you can buy today, and looking at all the crate motors, blocks, heads, parts, and gadgets coming out now. Even the new 5.4 Supercharged on Hot Rod mag! Wheeeeew! Pretty cool time to be living...
I wonder what kind of cars will be showing up at Run N Gun say ten years from now? Maybe someday I'll actually be able to go there and see R&G myself. Can't wait to hear about the results of R&G 2003.
