So many familar names on this post!!!
Same story from me, visited Unique in March of 1997 and put off the money thing until May of 2002. It just cost me 5 years of FUN!!
It's wasn't worth it , do it now. With the Unique you can build a really nice car for 40,000 or 65,000. Just depends on how extensive you want to finish it out. Finished mine in May of 2003 and I would not have done it any other way with any other car.
If I need some some help from the Weavers or advice I call up and its a done deal. If you go with a 427 S/C then the 1966 body can't be beat, the FIA car is as correct as you can get. Either way your a winner.

Kelly,
There is also a used car market in Cobras. Most of the cars for sale were built with the intent never to sell them so they are top notch... Getting married, new home, larger family, getting divorced, etc... many reasons for the cars hitting the market...

If it helps.....
after a 38 year pilgrimage I bought a Unique.
But - having been married 26 years, my wife was four-square AGAINST getting such an (insert here in her voice)"expensive, frivolous, impractical, doesn't-even-have-a-heater-or-radio" toy.
Acknowledged its expensive. Shopped mfgrs a lot - went to Conn. and to Mass. to look at others. Calmed her fears about time to build and gave reasons why buying one already built saved only about 3K and entailed compromises all around.
Now? At 5 the other morning, as I got up, I was warned not to be late getting home. Oh, yeah, why? - "It's been at least a week since I had a ride and WE"RE GOING TONITE - so don't be late."
Quick build - roughly 7 weeks by me alone; awesome appearance and sound; NEVER fails to get thumbs-up by State Troopers; and even my wife has become a Cobranut.
All thanks to the Weavers and their second-to-nobody product.

My dad passed away when I was in high school. His idea of vacation was a week of home improvements.
NOT ME!
Build 'em light and wind 'em tight.
There will be plenty of time to wait when I'm old.

Yes!
I sure enjoyed my Unique 427 SC. To date, I still believe its one of the best overall "values and experiences" out there. Working with Alan, Maurice, Gene and family ("The Weavers") made it even more enjoyable. Many features come standard on their deluxe pallet cars that are extra charges on other replica roller kits. Great value for building a FE, 351, or 302 based car. With some extra attention to body, paint, wheels, and accessory components, they can turn out to be authentic looking too!
Can't go wrong with a Unique, thats for sure!

Carl Wade has been building and racing Unique Cobra replicars for 25 years. Racing from Willow Springs to Taladega to Charlotte Motor Speedway and more magazine articles written about him than one can believe. He services all Cobra manufactured vehicles driven in Colorado and has shown me in just 10 short months how incredibly well bit along with "fit and finish" on Uniques compared to everyone else. It only takes a short 100 hours to build one.
Now we are building them with Momar Fuel Injection that makes them tunable by laptop computer while looking like Weber Carburetors.
You can see our Unique Cobra for sale with Momar Fuel injection at www.carsonline.com Look for the "Deluxe Palet" description in the Shelby category.
We are www.ColoradoCobras.com
I am Don Bayles, Office Manager and I feel quite fortunate and priveledged to work with Carl. In his carreer he has built over 200 Unique Cobras and GT 40's in 25 + years.

Not sure I can add much to the outpouring of high praise, besides my vote as well for Unique. I've had mine for two years now and it's top shelf all the way. Only improvement I'd make is to get an aluminum car, but I'm not in a position to shell out that kind of cash. Mine was built by one of their authorized builders - a good way to go if you're a hack like me.
I know this isn't a Southern Automotive thread, but I'd be willing to be the majority of responders with Unique's (plus a boat load of other manufactures) will also have a motor from SA - that's not an accident. Suggest you talk to Unique and SA about the "unique" relationship they have and how it benefits you as a buyer.
Best of luck with your decision and welcome to the family!

Jason has a good point about Southern Automotive. You should check them out for your engine needs. Bill, Lewis and the rest of the gang can build one HELL of a strong motor. I swear I have more acceleration capability from 80 MPH than most cars have from a standstill. But I digress...
