Leaning towards a Unique
Have spent several hours talking with Alan Weaver at Unique.
Wow, what nice people they are! I called last Thursday, 4pm my time, 5pm for them, Alan answered even though they were closed and spent the next hour answering and giving advice to ALL of my questions. I asked for their sales lit. and it was in my hands Saterday! Called again today and received the same. Alan had me send him a fax of what I wanted in their 427 car and an hour later I have a price quote. I think that I'm starting to understand why the Unique is so highly thought of.
So, what I need is to hear from the Cobra community is; what do you think of the Unique-good and bad.
And for you Texas cobra owners, what are the steps needed to register and title a cobra?
If I order one, am hoping to be ready for Spring Fling
The Houston bunch might have to make a road trip to Sweeny for a "Let's get Kellys Unique ready for Austin" work party
It's only 60 miles! No problem for David

I sure do like my nearly 20 year old Unique. The Weaver have never been anything but helpful to me and every one I have ever talked to. Shop around and be sure what you want. But you will not go wrong with Unique.

I am very happy with my Unique. One thing I can say about the Weavers is that they will give you the same type of service AFTER you buy it. I have never been to an event where a Unique took a back seat to ANY Cobras fit and finish. (both being well finished cars of course) If you want to "do it yourself" but not have to re-invent the wheel the Unique kit is a great car. I like SPF alot, but I wanted more of a project for myself.
Good luck and hope to see you in the other forum posting build pics soon.

Just received an e-mail from Alan today regarding a fabrication they are doing for an upgrade on the rear Jag suspension. The prototype had just gone to the fabricator and was due back in a week...
He offered to make one up special and ship it right out so it could be installed while Jaguar of Cleveland was replacing a bolt for me.
(I'm an index finger mechanic). Can't ask for anything more than that.
I can't tell you how much I love the build on that car.. Unique is the best your money will buy in that price range.. I believe you can spend more money for a car but won't get as much as you do with the Unique... THey've been building them since 1977 and pretty much got it correct...
and super nice people... Alan and Maurice always take the time to talk you through things... the whole Weaver family has been a pleasure...

Kelly, I think that Unique is a great choice. I don't own one, but there are two in the Beaumont area and all I have heard is praise about the Unique folks and cars. Just let me know and I'll be there to help. How is Jo doing?

You're making the right choice. Period.
I have not regretted my Unique decision AT ALL. You'll be very hard pressed to find anyone who has. Excellent quality, straightforward assembly, second-to-none support, and FANTASTIC people make that company a winner.

Their roller is very, very well thought out. No hidden surprises. If you farm out the paint and motor, three people can build it in less than 100 hours.
In terms of their support to the customer, let's just say that you don't stay in business since 1977 by neglecting your buyers. Straight up organization and there is no "spin".

Well said guys! And coming from Cal Metal, that's a real compliment to a good company from someone who really knows these cars and the peripheral history surrounding them.
I disassembled and rebuilt a 15 year old, right hand drive Unique ( one of only 2 ever built, I think) and because of the engineering and support from both the manufacturer and other owners out there, it really was a breeze. Body off and on, full electrical system, front suspension- all new parts came from Unique. The car handles beautifully, is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and gives a surprisingly nice, solid ride. Great product from great people.

Kelly
If you do a search on this forum you will find several threads that ask the same questions you have asked. You will not find even one negative post regarding a Unique or the Weavers. That in itself is very favorable feedback considering some of the things we have seen posted here.
I have had my Unique on the road for over 10 years and if I were to buy another Cobra today, it would be a Unique. The cars are a great value and the customer service is second to none!

Unique
bittenfinal,
if the weavers had help a impartial buyer set up a forum for their cars they would have a following like the FFR gang, since they are about the finest family to deal with out there. you get the family as part of the deal, you know that already.

Ditto to all the above. I bought my Unique in June, and have racked up 2000 incident-free miles since. And as for the Weavers, they have been awesome. I bought my car second-hand, but Alan and Maurice have been more than helpful with every question that I have thrown their way.

Grumpy and all of the rest, you are right, I have figured it out, you are one of the family......
If I lived closer, I think that Mrs. Weaver would have invited me to Supper
Thanks for all of the positive feedback guys, sure helps in making the "which cobra kit to buy" decision easy!
kountzecobra, Jo is fine, but I'm a nervious wreck trying to decide if I can let go of the money to buy a Cobra
Oh wait, you didn't ask how I was
But I'm used to that
