No Pantera people here??? I have always loved the lines of the Pantera especially the GT5S with the huge fender flares and tires to match. Not to mention they were Ford powered.

Brian, the Pantera is nice but it came from the loins of this bad boy; the handsome DeTomaso Mangusta.

Default I have an idea, let's ask Evan . . .

Shin - you are correct about the original SVJ, however, it was my understanding (perhaps wrong) that the factory did the conversions on six SV's to Wallace's SVJ specs before SV production ceased. Thus my assertation that Cage's car was "original". Oh, wait, isn't there some other thread on the subject of real, or replica?

Ok, ok, let's not hijack this otherwise innocent thread.

And good choice on the gullwing.

I gotta agree with Fred on this one...the Ferrari Barchetta 166MM has to be considered a seminal sports car design. AC Ace (Cobras), MGA, and A-H 100 thru 3000 all have 166 styling cues.

MTrain,

You are right, the factory did built 4 Jota replicas because of demand by customers, but mostly cosmetic. On the one and only original, Bob Wallace massaged the engine with dry-sump lubrication, higher compression ratio, aluminum body panels, as well as chassis components. None of these were found on the other four. BTW Jota was for the FIA, Appnedix J rules, whatever that was at the time.

So, Nick Cage's Jota was a real "factory built" replica. All other Jotas are fakes. Wait, were we talking about Cobras or Miuras?

Here's another of may favorite cars: The Ferrari 365GTB4 Daytona

Buzz,

I actually chased down and passed a Lancia Stratos (street version) on the country roads of Buckshire (UK), in my BMW 2002 Tii many years ago. It is a striking design.

Thumbs up That XJ 13 is beautiful indeed.

I did not see what year it was, anyone know? Why isn't a replica of that machine being made? it surely is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen, rivals maybe even beats the Maseratti Barchetta 3500 in looks:

While at NY Kennedy airport, awaiting flight time I noticed a glossy magazine that listed the 30 all time best sportcar designs. Well, I could not resist. The AC Shelby Cobra was listed in 7th place, with the footnote that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, and an estimated 30,000 replica 427/289/260 Cobras exist to prove the point.

I did not commit the list to memory however, the E-type Jaguar was number 1 and the Austin-Healey was up there with the MG TC, the Porsche 911 and the Aston Martin.

I did not get the issue but it is worth looking for if you are so inclined.

Hi Buzz,
Actually not much detective work on my part... I have a poster of the 2000GT in my garage. Toyota was giving them away and had a real one on display at Laguna Seca / Monterey Historics this year. I had not seen one before that.

The photo of the Jaguar XJ13 was from the 2002 Concours De' Elegance event at Pebble Beach. The original driver of the car was there speaking about the car, a wreck that took place in that car, and he still had the scar on his face from it. It was restored. What was funny is he brought it up to display area and "lit 'em up" coming down the grass fairway returning the car to its show stall. Sounded pretty cool. I was smitten with the car every since.

They make 1:18 scale models of the XJ13 too.

I thought the E type was derived from the D type. Anyway, the Stratos would be near the top of my list. As would a 365GTB Spyder ala "Gumball Rally". Auburn Boattail Speedster would be another choice. There arent many that aren't inpsired by another car in some way.

I just love the Lotus Elise, but some how I see a lot of Dino in it's lines. Porsche 550 also gets a vote. Is the 356 too close to a Bug to count?
