UT,

That was wonderful for the little girl, but for you it must have been a priceless experience. :)

I've been following this thread, and I award you the BEST recognition award.

UT

I second that!

The most touching story I've heard yet with a Cobra. :D

Hell, now you gotta keep it! ;)

Hot Rod TV

I was interviewed by HOT ROD TV while I was on the Power Tour. The guy that interviewed me said that it will air on the 16th. The show is about the top ten muscle cars of all time.
He also said that it might be shown on the Power Tour show that will air in about three weeks.
I made the whole tour, drove a total of 3850 miles in 11 days. Had a blast.

Yesterday at a local car show a fellow approached me as I stood behind my car. He asked if "This" was my car, I responded and he approched and as he circled around the back said "Thanks for not bringing a kit car". "It is a real one right" I said no its a kit; he stopped in his tracks.

Spending an afternoon having conversations like the one above is my idea of torture.

Too funny!

A bunch of us guys got together and went to the Dutton rally at Eastern Creek a couple of weeks ago and parked the cars (7) along the covered garages. We were watching the racers going down the straight from the pit roof, wearing our various Cobra related t-shirts and such when a guy comes up to us and says "if you guys like Shelbys you ought to know that some guy has bought an original Cobra down stairs!" My mechanic replies "which one? the silver number 96? he said yes have you seen it? and who owns it? the finger was pointed at me to which I replied that it was not an original but a Robnell. He was a little embarrased I think but congratulated me on it's how original it looked. :D

I won first place in the local annual Ford show this past Sunday. Since it was primarily a Mustang based show, I was put into the "Special Interest - stock vehicles" class. This class had about 15 cars in it, with some really nice stock musclecars and vintage non-Mustang Fords.

Wide berth!

I spent an hour or so at the local wednesday night car show.

The thing that struck me odd was how much room everyone gave the Cobra, like it would bite!

People seemed to get a lot closer to most of the other cars, right up to & almost touching them. But I only saw one guy get any closer than an arms length, & he brought a Shelby GT350 clone!

I know it didn't smell bad or anything like that. It was puzzeling to me. Just not quite the reaction I'd expected.

Jdog,

That is unusual. Normally you have to stand and keep them back and I have seen people open the doors and get into the Cobras if the owner wasn't there to stop them. Of course yours is so bright and shiny, they may be afraid of touching it. The Built While I Was In Folsom Prison sign may have helped also.

Ron :D

Ron
I see the same reaction as Jdog. Of course, this only applies to people over 12 years old. A Cobra attracts kids like _ _ _ (fill in your comment here).

Yesterday I stopped to take a picture and a guy came out of his house while he was buttoning his shirt. He asked if I wanted him to take a picture with me in the picture. He asked quite a few questions about the car as he unbuttoned and "re-buttoned" his shirt correctly - it was one button off. He said that the Cobra was one of the best looking cars he has ever seen.

It's called R E S P E C T.

Ron61 06-23-2007 10:56 AM

Warren,

Nice picture and here it is the teens as much as the young kids that climb into the cars. Two were arrested a couple of years ago for threatening the owner when he told them to get the He** out of his Car. One was 14 and the other 17.

Cops

Last night out in front of my house, there were 3 patrol cars behind a ricer and they were tearing him and the car down throughly for about an hour. It just so happened that at about the same time the tow truck was arriving to load up the poor kids car, I was ready to fire the Cobra for the first time since it went to the body shop 10 months ago. I rolled her into the driveway as to not blow the blast media all over my garage (newly blasted/coated exhaust), turned on the electrical, and hit the starter. It fired right up, in its usual loud glory note, and I let it come up to temperature while checking for leaks (recently redid the intake). Happy with what I saw, I backed it out of the driveway, took off down to the corner, filled it with gas, and drove it back just in time to see the tow rig driving away with the ricers ride. 1 cop and the owner of the Honda were still standing curbside.

So then I shut it off and heard, "Oh that's just great, this dude can drive a god damn funny car and you don't give a sh!t!". The cop replied - "Looks like you bought the wrong car huh? By the looks of that, I'd say he's smog exempt under the SB-100 law." To which, I smiled and nodded.

Ron61 06-25-2007 03:34 PM

Byron,

Do you know what they were looking for in that kids car? Was it part of the new crack down on street racing? Sounds as if you had a pretty nice cop there at the time.

Ron :)

ByronRACE 06-25-2007 04:06 PM

Don't know.

I don't know if this is part of project rice mill or not. They recently crushed a few cars in LA and I'm sure there is increased awareness. This kids car was covered with racing stickers, had a bunch of bling under the hood, was slammed to the ground, had a fart pipe on it, and wing by boeing. I didn't go over and lend a hand, so I have no idea what the legal grounding of the impound might have been. My guess is he was driving faster than he should have, got pulled over, and they made an example out of him. Ricer or not, I hate to see that happen to anyone.

Some import clown has been flying down the middle of the street at midnight or just after at well over 100mph often enough that I've had time to run to the front windows and watch him pass; perhaps they're just doing what they can to collect up likely suspects before someone ends up with a car in their living room. The guy blasts through 6 stop signs at WOT and brakes hard enough at the end of the street that I hear the antilocks chattering. Same car; identical exhaust note. I don't know if he uses my street as a getaway path, or if he just does it for kicks...but sooner or later, it'll end badly.

I'm not exactly a saint, but I'd never take as much risk as this guy.

BAR deluged!

A couple of months ago while I was getting my smog certification (thank you sb100), the guy at BAR said they have been deluged lately with vehicle re-inspection tickets, due to a street racing crackdown. Looking mostly for 'racing' items, like "Simpson 5 points", "loud exhaust pipes", Nitrous, ect.!

He said to be sure to show them my SB100 sticker, It would save me an unnecessary trip back to BAR!;)

jdog:)

P.S. You have to pay BAR to do the re-inspection!%/

cobra for wife and me--30th anniversary in fall 2001, this summer university where I work wanted to do a story about car, they had seen car in previous homecoming parades,so brought it and momma to campus, where all of our family has graduated. Campus photographer took many pictures for story-talked with wife long time. Story and pictures will come out this fall in gem of the hills, alumni mag.to some 65thous. alumni. Hope it is good. Had to drive mustang 2000 gt ragtop to london cobra show last week, parked in street with cobras, sitting under tree, three little girls came up estatic, father came up, remarked and it,s from alabama, at which time I got up went over spoke to him said it,s my car, one little girl exclaimed the car to be the car of her dreams. They were from prattville alabama. Wanted to sit in car, I obliged, noticed one little girl to be quite frail as I helped her in , father turned to me and said she has cystic fibrosis and is here for the london cobra fund raiser. Not expected to live for too long. Watched them leave among the cobras up the street, went back to my chair and tree and cried.I,m sorry. Will-alabama

This last weekend I am stopped at a light and a pick up pulls up quickly to my right. A guy leans out the window and says F@#$*^G nice car, shouldn't had kids...........

chesterakl 06-26-2007 10:39 PM

Was out and about on Sunday "airing 'er out :D ", and two guys in a Taurus came barreling up in the lane to the left of me. The guy in the passenger rolls down the window and lets out a big "yeeeaaaahhhhhhh man" - so loud I could plainly hear him at 60mph over the sidepipes.

Then he ducks back in and comes back out with his camera phone. He hangs out the window (so far out that it kind of made me uncomfortable) and snaps a couple of pictures.

Gave him the "thanks" wave and they go on their merry way.
