went golfing today with a friend from work at a private club. I was told that my round would be free if I took the pro shop guy for a ride. I love free golf

Article in our local paper on yesterday's cruise. Over 100,000 attended.

I've had an elderly lady that was using a walker ask for a ride. I would have but she said she wouldn't be able to get out. Jim

I took the Cobra to my sons block party this weekend. A neighbor comes over that has 3 early Mustangs. He is the first person I met who recognized the FIA body style. After he finishes his last Mustang he wants to build a Cobra.
Stopped for gas and an old lady and her grandson pulls up to the pump next to me. She asks what kind of car it was. I told her it was a Shelby Cobra. She says to her grandson "see, you have to ask!" I started it up and I herd her say "Just listen to that sucker!" |
I took the Cobra out for a little bit this afternoon and on the way back to the house had to go by a concert festival (Planet Bluegrass Folks Festival). Traffic was backed up and I could see some commotion in the car behind me. After we got through the jam I ws heading home about 3 blocks away when in the rear view mirror I saw someone on the car behind me - Oh great, "surfing" and someone is going to die. It wasn't, the passenger (or at least I hope it was the passenger) was standing through the open sun roof taking a video of the Cobra in front of them.

I was at the corner of Dixie and Davisburge roads. A young man was appraoching the intersection from the same side I was on, heading north. The driver slowly rolled up and past the cobra into cross traffic as he hung his head out the window looking at the car.
Horns honked and he backed up. This is the third time this happened to me in this car...maybe I should wear a hat.   |
Took a ride with my wife last weekend and stopped at a Starbucks after having a somewhat fast ride through a nearby rural valley. I was approached by a county police officer offering to trade vehicles with me. I told him I could have some fun in his cruiser and he replied that it wouldn't be as much fun as he could have in my Cobra. Another officer pulled up and both were admiring my ride and asking questions etc. I told the first officer to give me a call when he was off duty and I'd give him a ride. He wrote my name and number on the back of his card and gave me one of his. He remarked that this card might be a "get out of a ticket pass" if used discretely. I thanked him and he asked where we'd been riding. I told him and said there are a couple of good Cobra roads in the valley at which point he said that now would be a good time to run them again since no one (ie he and his partner) would be there to notice. I've heard of instances where police officers will stop a Cobra only to see it. That has never happened to me but this visit will live in my memory for quite a while.

This is not recognition lately, but within 10 minutes of driving my car for the first time I was at an intersection and a young lad of another race in a Escalade stuck his upper body out of the window and called me a 'Rich Bastard'. Comments from then on have been of admiration. Although I get tired of people asking if it is a 'real one'.

Some will hate "us" for the noise and fuel consumption - most will admire the fantastic Icon. |
Latest....
Had a garage sale this past weekend. A couple came up and started a conversation. The fellow said he and his wife have been married for 62 years. Then he saw the Cobra and said "that is the most gorgeous thing ever seen". His wife gave him an odd look. I hope this didn't start something.

I was on the negative side of the comment
While visiting Unique Motorcars, Gadsden AL, where I ended up buying my Cobra 427 S/C, during their 2010 homecoming, I was fortunate enough to be around ~40 Unique Cobra 427s and FIAs. The next day, Sat, was an organized drive through the north AL hills to Barber Intl. Speedway museum. And since I signed my purchase order for my Cobra the day before,,,,, I was invited to drive along, even though I didn’t have a Cobra to drive. So I drove my Porsche RS60 Spyder. It was spectacular driving in a ~40 Cobra parade. The cars strung out at least a ¼ mile. People were on their front porches, stopped their lawn movers, standing in front of small shops and just waving with smiles from ear to ear. Now a Porsche is no “cheesy” car, but I guess when compared to a Cobra…. That’s another story? While the Cobra caravan was slowing down to make a right turn at an intersection and people alongside the road watching…. One group of guys said within ear shot of my wife and I…. What the f*** is that car doing there? :JEKYLHYDE That kind of said it all. Next year’s homecoming, I’ll have my own Cobra and can start hearing some of the positive comments mentioned throughout this thread.
