Was looking on norcal web site for upcoming events, went to www.dynamicautowest.net , then looked under Shelby Auto down to finishline at 2. Used my car to picture competition cars approved by Shelby.

I was standing by my car in the safeway parking lot tongiht waiting for my wife. All the spots around the car were empty and we were parked by the door. A woman came up to me and said, "Are you intimidating people to not park near you? I certainly wasn't going to." And she laughed and walked away.

Anyhow, it was a glorious day! The engine was smooth, the car hugged the gentle curves in the road, there was almost no traffic in either direction, and the weather was perfect.
There is a railway that runs parallel to the highway through this rural area, with about 50 yards between the road and the rails. We gradually overtook a very long freight train headed west, just like us. It was probably going 55-60 mph to our 65. (I remember thinking how insignificant my small block ford's power was, compared to this train's dual diesel engines).
The train engineer was leaning out the window, looking ahead of the train. Just as we pulled even with him, he casually looked over in our direction. I happened to look at him at that same instant and saw him sit up straight, lean further out his window towards us, make huge sweeping waves at us with one hand, and blow two long blasts of his air horn with the other hand.
And then the amazing part. My wife instantly gave the engineer a “thumbs up”, looked over at me, grinned, and had only one word to say: "Wow!"

and there's an interesting idea .... putting lights where the brake ducts are ....
although most cobras don't quite have the cut-away on the doors that you have

Just saw your post from a month ago, and had a good laugh. No, that's not me or my wife, but your comment was a funny tie-in to my post.
I uploaded the pictures of the pontiac "convertible" with the intent of replying to a post about half-height windshields for Cobras and making a joke about an Okie custom shop I could recommend. Unfortunately, I never got around to it.

My story....
I have had mine painted for a couple of months now, and man, I really under estimated the attention. I mean, it is unbelievable and something I can live without from time to time. Nothing takes under 30 minutes anymore, if that, everything requires an explanation, a look, a stare and about 20 to 30 cell phone photographs. People in L.A. assume you are a movie star in this car, Jay Lenno's lost son or something....and take pictures of the driver IN THE CAR, rather than the car itself. Rediculous...right in traffic. I heard a girl saying "I am going to find out who he is!!! I know he is someone famous!" Well not really...I just wonder who I will be compared to?
My big one came up the other day in the city here, where there is a car get-together every first Friday of the month. I didn't expect it to be a big deal and arrived last minute. Here, there are about 50 cars, and underestimating the turn out I came last minute in case it was a waste of time...it wasn't.
Because I came so late, I have to park in front where everyone comes in. And my Lord, did every come and see the car. If I can get a dollar for every cell phone picture I can get a new engine. Simply remarkable....A lot of the older hot rod guys with the 32 coupes and the like can up and gave me a lot of build compliments. That is the best compliment in the world to me. And then....the local city television station wanted to do an interview with me about my car, the build, engine etc. Oh my Lord....and of course I did. Man, I cannot tell you the attention I recieved, kids, Grandmothers, teenagers, I guy with a 600hp 55' Chevy who wanted to do a trade for trade right on the spot, title in hand, who hates Fords, and may burn in hell (according to him), but wants a Shleby Cobra. A Chevy guy (die-hard) who wants my Cobra....holy cow. I am just laughing.
We were laughing, talking; I like talking to the true older hot rod guys the best. They no their $hit, and when they give you a thumbs up, its like a Navy Seal saying "You can shoot a rifle pretty good."..For me, that's is good as it gets, they know better. And I built it myself...

Just tonight I'm at a Wendy's drive up in little brothers Kirkham, I order and pay at the first window and pull up to the second for my drink and the teenage kid is just sitting there holding the drink, saying nothing. He stared, open mouthed, for probably 10 seconds straight. That was kind of fun. Trying to crotch a 32oz. drink while driving with the feet all squished to the left however, was not.

This weekend I attended a small car show. Two cars down from me was a tricked out Evo. The owner jumped in and was revving up the engine, sounded like a B&S engine. (ring-ding-ding-ding.) I thought to myself, "this is just to good to be true". So I cranked the engine over and gave it some real RPM's. Nearly everyone around me was in total shock! I think the exhaust pressure just about knocked a women over standing next to the car.
When I was about to leave one of the kids came up and said that he'd challenge me to a race when he gets his clutch done, I just smiled.
The next day I made a stop at Autozone. When I was leaving a women and her son were looking at the car. She said, "that is a beautiful car", to which I said thanks. When I started the engine she just smiled from ear to ear and told me that I had made her day!
It's awesome that even the "spectators" seem to get as much enjoyment as the owners. That made my day.

They are crap aren't they? No airbags, no AC, no power windows, no cup holders, they're noisy as hell and everyone stares at you in it. But you can fry an egg on it in the summer. That's a plus...

Ahh the evo, every young mans dream under the age of 22. They are pretty fast cars no doubt but most of the owners seem to have a chip on their shoulder. It is times like that that I wish I had loud pipes.

I'm still waiting (guess dreaming) for a good old fashion flash by some curvaceous babe as I drive by. The thumbs-up, smiles, pictures, and people almost running me off the road gets boring after a while.

As A Nuisance
My new neighbors probably view it as environmentally un-green. They cut grass with a new reel-type push mower. I cut my yard with a 2-cylinder 17 horsepower commercial walk-behind.
Each time I start the Cobra, it probably negates the neighbors' "greening" effort about 50 times over.

Had a guy pull up beside my wife and I yesterday and said...."I want you to know that I hate you right now......I envy you, but I hate you." Then he smiled and gave me a big thumbs up.

Coming back from a cruise in last evening , I went by a friends house where she had her grandson and a friend spreading pine straw . As I pulled in the drive , they stopped and stared . I said I would take each of them for a short ride ... and didn`t have to ask a second time . The youngest is 11 and the other starts high school next year .
When we left ... they were still standing there with grins from ear to ear .... but the neighbors weren`t thrilled with the noise .
