Default Invincashield

I know a number of members have used the Invincashield product to help protect their paint jobs from damage. I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it now that it's been on for a while.
Any pros or cons about it would be welcomed.

It works great. I've had mine on for about 5 or 6 months now. No rock chips, no peeling, no bubbles, etc. The only downfall is that on my dark paint, you do notice the top edge of the shield and I've had a number of people ask me if that's a scratch.

Default Invinca-Shield

I had it installed by the SPF dealer a year ago and it's held up pretty good. The larger rock dings on my silver paint show up white so some day I might want to have it changed, although I heard that was a nightmare !!! For me the question has anyone had to replace it and was there any damage to the paint ???

My Invincashield has been through the Spring Fling and several cruises since I installed it in the Spring and not one stone chip. Yes, the edge is visible if you're looking for it or happen to catch the light just right, but the line is nothing when compared to chipped paint.

One thing to watch out for is not to wax over the edges of the Invincashield. The hard-to-see line is now very visible on a dark finish with a wax that leaves a white residue. It's a bear to remove even with a toothbrush.

Here's one of my fenders that protected with Invincashield. Check out the patterns being developed for ERA front ends.

I know these people sell kits to cover many sections of the car but where would you guys most suggest this stuff be placed or Do you think all of the peices "are" a good idea? I am thinking of emailing to see if they can or will makes some pieces for my FIA.

The obvious places to put Invinca-Sheild are locations where damage from rocks is most likely: front of the rear fenders and front of the car. The reason pieces are required is due to the many compound curves in the front and the large area. Only one piece per rear fender is required, though.

I've noticed cars that have had this stuff applied for some period of time and it's turned yellowish. It seems to become far more noticable than stone chips. There are repair kits for stone chip damage that lends far less noticable results.

I've had mine on for 6 months and don't have a single stone chip. It hasn't begun to turn yellow nor have I seen any turn that color. For less than $300 it's hard to beat paint protection.

I went to the web site listed above and read a little bit about it. Sounds like a great alternative to a bra, but has anybody seen long term affects from ultra violet on areas that are covered with the shield and those areas without. For example a "red" paint job and it's ability to fade or oxidize over time?

Tony,
All you have to do is heat it up with a hair dryer and it peels right off with no damage to the paint. I took some off the other day, it came off easier than I thought it would. Steve

Steve, that's good to know. I would have never guessed you could remove it without damaging the paint finish. My car has a very nice high-gloss paint finish and I can't bear the thought of covering it with anything. I'm a waxer. I hate stone chips, but I just can't do it.

That's great that it came off with no problems, because I have only heard negitive comments probably from those who never had to replace it. Are you going to replace it with a new piece ??

Tony Radford,
If you hate rock chips you should really give it a try. Maybe you could test it out in an area that is hardly seen. For example, the lowest part of the rear fender where the rear tire sprays rocks. This surface is almost horizontal to the ground and almost out of sight. If it works for you, you can move on to other crucial areas later.

Tony Aprile,
I did replace it. Then, to top it off, A few days later I saw a bubble I missed so I removed and replaced it again!

Lightbulb Stonegard

Same product (3M) different name. Stonegard is a franchise that custom installs the 3M material. This is a better approach than the "kits" since each car is slightly different.

They also make a thicker version that covers your headlamps.

I have both installed (17 months now) and they remain invisible and flawless. As near as I can tell, the invisible part has ALOT to do with the skills and expereince of the installer.

Cheers,

Zderf

Speed (Tom):
Just curious, does the invincashield wrap around the front edge of the grill opening or does it end at or above it?

It wraps around all edges, so the most vulnerable areas are protected. And because it's not so thick, a change in texture or gloss is not so easy to detect as with the earlier 3M product.
