Good Year Eagle Tires
Does anyone know the details of the Good Year Eagle tires that are shown on the Kirkham stainless steel car that is for sale on e-bay. What exactly is the type of tire that carries this style of lettering and works well with a mostly streed driven Cobra.
Man....I need a set of these for my car.

I don't think there is any thing that looks better on a Cobra. But do check with the local laws and insurance before you run them on the street as they are not DOT legal.

No problem. I just got a set a few months ago. I am told that they had been made in South America (Chile I think) for a while, but the quality was pretty shoddy and the tires were hard to balance. I think that they are now being produced in the US to better standards. I am pretty sure that mine say "Made in USA" on them. Roger will know. His web site is cool, but it's definitely worth a follow up telephone call to Roger directly to discuss.

They are bias-ply & therefore ride a bit rough, follow ruts and get poorer gas mileage than a radial. It says "For track use only" on the sidewall.
It's been discussed at length that the lettering is horribly applied & turns brown very quickly. I've re-painted mine by hand three times already & will need to again soon.
I'm not sure how to post a picture, but you can look at my car in my photo gallery (I think) & see what they look like new.

If you do go with non-DOT tires, then be careful at Car Shows...
A few months ago, I entered my SPF in an annual local Car Show, and I put my 15" Goodyear Slicks on it, as they look great! - and the show was only a mile from my house, so I wasn't worried about driving on the street with these race-only tires. Anyway, towards the end of the day, another Cobra owner (who had 2 cars in the same show) found a local Police Officer who was wondering around looking at the cars and drug him over to my car to point out that I was not running DOT tires.
Have Fun,
Randy R...

Yeah, he was none to happy later on, when I took first place in the "race car" class over his FFR Spec Racer... But that's another story, and I don't want to Hi-Jack this thread ;-)

Randy -
I asked a CHP officer about using these tires and he said that they only care about them having enough tread.
He wasn't cool about my Lexan windshield though....

Yes the windshield. It was finally dry enough to take the Cobra for a ride yesterday. I was followed by a policeman for a while and I really thought he was going to pull me over for no windshield. I figured that there were other things he could find illegal about the car, but I was really driving slooooooow. No front plate, no wipers, too darn loud, too many numbers.
I got it home and put it away before it started raining again.
We need a sunny day.

Tim - Wasn't your car for sale or are you the new owner? Either way I have to tell you it is absolutly incredible! The COBRA tires would be icing on it's cake for sure and would match that comp windscreen on your car. Best wishes!

I think it all depends on who's wearing the badge. I was busted big-time for an energetic burst entering the freeway. Real young Highway Patrolman aks me if I knew why he pulled me over. I replied, "To get a closer look?"
Thank goodness he had a sense of humor, smiled and said, "Well - that too." He was very lenient on the ticket, and when a backup patrol car pulled up behind us, he said, "Now THAT guy is just getting a closer look."
A few months earlier, a group of us were pulled over by Barney Fife who did the whole litany of illegalities & gave us an extremely uncomfortable time - threatening to have us all towed and impounded, etc.
We were relieved he limited the tickets to speeding - (which I contested and won.)
Luck of the draw.

I have the car and it is for sale. Thank you for the compliment.
A college friend had the car built by Hi-Tech in 1997 and he really spared no cost to duplicate the original. It even makes hard core Cobra fans scratch their head. It is such a hybrid car people think it's original. I have great shots of it (CSX3002) with Ken Miles driving at Riverside and you can see the 289 front end and square oil cooler. CSX3002 is the only one built in this manner.
