gentlemen
we are becoming a group of lost artists ,basicly we re hot rodders who can afford to do what we want,we shouldnt expect the next generation of hot rodders to like the same type of cars we do.for my dad it was a57 buick for my grand father it was a model a pick up neither of these cars interest me. so the new generation have the hi tech world at thier finger tips let them have fun with it

Gotta agree with Ron (cobrakit66) on this... it's just plain natural for each generation to have their own thing. I for one, am just glad that some of the next generation are taking an interest in cars.

The rice rockets aren't to my taste, but when I pull in next to a 34 Ford at a car show, sometimes those guys aren't really thrilled with my car. I am just surprised that these kids can afford the hobby what with the cost of computers, turbos, aero-stuff and all.

I do know that sometimes we are our own worst enemy... I've seen car guys scream at little kids, (who are usually in awe of the Cobra's), for just touching their car - scares the @#$% out of'em. Why would a kid want to get into the hobby when they are treated like that?

On the other hand, I basically blame Barbara Streisand for everything!

Whats this about Computer 'geeks' being a threat? I right software for a living, have a Unique Cobra and do all the work on it myself!

Ricers, they are hotrodders. Like the wings and nasal mufflers or not, they are us 40 years fast forward.

Thumbs up

I'M NOT SO SURE ABOUT ALL THIS.

MOST OF THE QUESTIONS I GET ABOUT THE COBRAS AND THE GT-40 ARE FROM TEENAGERS; AND THEY KNOW A LOT ABOUT THE CARS. I'VE BEEN KNOWN TO SIT IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THEM AND CHAT FOR AN HOUR ABOUT THE CARS.

I RARELY GO TO THE GAS STAION OR "JUST AROUND THE BLOCK" WITHOUT HAVING ONE OF THEM IN THE PASSENGERS SEAT. IT'S SOMETIMES A LITTLE SCARY JUST HOW MUCH THEY KNOW ABOUT COBRAS AND GT-40's. IN FACT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN A FATHER AND TEEN AGE SON HAVE WANDERED INTO MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THE GARAGE DOOR IS OPEN AND THE FATHER IS ASKING THE QUESTIONS AND THE SON IS ANSWERING MOST OF THEM BEFORE I CAN.

NOT EVERY TEENAGER IS GOING TO GROW UP TO BE A COBRAPHILE - BUT HELL - NOT EVERYONE OF OUR GENERATION IS A COBRAPHILE EITHER.

I'VE OFTEN WONDERED EXACTLY WHAT PERCENTAGE OF CLUB COBRA MEMBERS WERE ACTUALLY EVEN BORN AT THE TIME THAT THE LAST COBRAS WERE PRODUCED. (OBVIOUSLY, I DON'T WANT TO STIR EVAN UP. I MEAN THE CSX 3000,s AND CSX 2000,s).

THE TIME WE TAKE WITH THEM, THE RESPECT WE SHOW THEM, AND THE EFFORT WE PUT INTO EXPLAINING IT TO THEM THE GREATER THE LIKLIHOOD THEY WILL BECOME COBRA FANATICS.

WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER (A LONG. LONG, TIME AGO - ON A PLANET FAR, FAR, AWAY) MY GREATEST LOVE - NEXT TO MOLLEY M. - WAS MY 1940 FORD COUPE. IT WAS CERTAINLY A LOT OLDER THAN I WAS.

WHEN I WAS A KID - ON THE NORTH SIDE OF PITTSBURGH - THE GUY IN THE APARTMENT ABOVE US HAD BEEN A NAVIGATOR IN THE RCAF. HE WOULD SPEND HOURS TALKING TO US ABOUT AIRPLANES AND FLYING. DON MARSHALL WAS ONE OF THE BEST MEMORIES I HAVE OF MY CHILDHOOD - - AND IN VERY LARGE MEASURE - - THE REASON I BECAME INTERESTED IN FLYING, JOINED THE AIR FORCE AND SPENT 26 YEARS FLYING FOR THE AIRLINES. OBVIOUSLY - - I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN HIM OR THE GRAND STORIES HE WOULD TELL US UNTIL WE WERE "CALLED IN" FOR THE NIGHT.

I GUESS THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T APPRECIATE DON MARSHALL WERE A COUPLE OF MIG PILOTS WHO GOT THEIR ASSES KICKED BY ONE OF DON'S PROTEGES.

TODAYS TEEN AGERS ARE WHAT WE WILL MAKE OF THEM - - EITHER BY OUR INTEREST OR BY OUR NEGLECT.

MY FONDEST HOPE IS THAT I CAN BE A "DON MARSHALL" TO SOME KID WHO NEEDS A LITTLE "NUDGE" OR A FRIEND.

Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY.

Rick,

I don't know if your computer geek comment was directed at my post... if it was, I just meant the cost of the computer updates to their cars - not the computers in their house.

Hey, I was the Manager of Information Systems here at work for about 5 years and I played trombone in the marching band in school, can't get much geekier than that!

On my earlier post about some of us screaming at little kids... I forgot to comment on how many owners put their cars on the line for charity rides at the DVSF's... never forget the look on some kids faces (and adults for that matter) after they came back from the ride - wayyyy coollll!

Dan,

You sure looked worried at the last car show when that little kid leaned into your car with the Orange Slushy in his hand.

and I agree with the Bubba Streisand comment..

The thing that will cause the demise of the Cobra will be the ricers that start beating the run of the mill Cobras...
They'll keep tweaking those damn things and start looking for Cobras to burn... Those little bosturds.
I carry a bowl of goldfish on my passenger seat for just such an emergency....

rdorman aka "geek champion"

The whole computer geek thing was taken in good fun.

Actually I don't consider myself a computer geek at all. I picked the career because of $. Never even owned or used one before I went to college for my CIS degree. Geeks read about them, eat sleep and breath them. I do not belong to a single computer related organization nor subscribe to any related publication. Here is an example of a computer geek that I personally know. He has a home network set up and he and his wife get on different terminals to converse. THAT is a computer Geek!

Now a Motorsports Geek......... that could be argued. I eat sleep and breath cars. Although I do not get to watch as much racing as I used to.

Interesting about our birth related to the birth of the Cobra. I was born during the Cobra years. My first, and one of the favorites that I have owned, car was built when I was three.

True about passing it down from generation to generation. My daughter has become facinated with cars. Much more so than before the Cobra entered the family.

Insurance can, and most likely will, regulate our "hobby" to a minority status. There is a history here folks! As for the ricer kids, most of them grow up. It's amazing how many of them I see drive V8 4wd pickup trucks a bit later in life. Cobra ownership as well as vintage sports car ownership has allways been a minor nitch thing, when looking at the American hot rod experience as a whole. Then there's Turk - sponsoring and then editing his own thread,,,,,,,,,,, I'll put him up there with Jane and Barbara.

Al,

I don't remember the kid... but the orange stuff was tasty when I found it next to the seat a week later!

Speaking of Barbara and this thread... how about this classic Streisand tune:

"Mem'ries light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored mem'ries of the way we were"

Ugh, gak, sorry guys... had to do it

Cool Re: Who-or-WHAT hurt COBRAS the most?

Six pages deep, yet nobody has hit the main reason as to why. I've got it.

It's the back orders of one company, yes, one company that has caused the demise of the Cobra industry........With this one companys backorders and non shipments, the trickle down effect has already started to take hold of the industry leaders........................At who is this company:

Road Serpents Inc.

Need I say any more.

Bill,
I am tempted to censor you and your post for such an unmitigated slander. It is too bad, the Publicist for RS International is out of town, can't defend the company's position. I am no longer their spokesperson. I can only say so much.

I did get a call from them earlier and they say they will have a press release as soon as they are finished with their current client.
Looks like Michael is keeping them busy for a few more days than planned.

hey Bill,
Do you think History of Road Serpents should be mandatory reading for anyone interested in buying, building selling or burning a Cobra?

As it turns out ,after recieving the Road serpent Cobra, ........the interminable wait and subsequent banking irregularities. were the most enjoyable part of the experiance..

Turk,

Sure it should be reading, but the problem with the book is that half the pages are still on backorder along with the parts for the cars .It's tough reading when only the even numbered pages are there. This was the only collectors series manuscript that I found where having the authors signature actually lowered the value of the book by 50% .
