Default Baffled With Baffles

Can someone please tell me how the HELL I get the baffles out of the sidepipes???? We tried everything including a slide hammer! And once theyre out, can I replace the baffling with just regular fiberglass or is the material something else? My other concearn is that my pipes are 4" pipes and the baffle appears to only allow maybe 1 3/4 to flow through. That might be fine for small blocks. I dont know about you guys but seems to be quite restricting for my setup. Can I drill some holes in the ends of the baffles to allow more flow or will this end up blowing out the material and changing the sound? I dont want to remove them cause then Ill sound like a top fuel dragster (O.K. MAYBE NOT QUITE BUT THE NEIGHBORS WILL THINK SO)

Hi,
You are stuck with restrictive baffles.....one of our guys dyno'd his cobra 514 svo and picked up 60 rwh by taking out the baffles and run car chemistry inserts, not as loud as open pipes, but loud.
You have to cut the sidepipes to get em out and reweld them.
Perry.

I KINDA FELT THEY WERE WHEN I SAW THEM. If and when I get them out can I replace them? can I drill more holes and re-wrap them in fiberglass(if it is ifberglass) im still waiting on someone to tell me what the material is. It sure looks like fiberglass. If I cant get them out I guess Ebay they'll go and merry Xmas for me! SANTAS BRINGING NEW HEADERS(CERAMIC COATED)

Find a decent muffler shop. Cut the baffled sections (whole section, exterior and all) off your sidepipes and replace them with what you want. Replace the 3' baffled section with a differnt 3' baffled section. Unless your pipes are coated.

Hi all

I had a real problem 111dB with my exhaust.

Put new pipes on after extending the muffler the entire length of the pipe.

I used steel wool instead of fibreglass. Available at bigger shops.

Wind the wool on just like electrical tape. First in one direction and then back. Wire it at two three locations to stop it ending up one end. Wrap it lightly not tight or it will not let gases into quiten.

Result 96dB. nearly there for compliance

No one looks now. Running 351 stroker to 377. Childs/Albert rods, Dart II heads, Ice ignition, big cam, Victor Jnr. etc etc.

About 445 Hp at rear wheels. The pipes did not restrict power.

Have 2 and 1/4 inside diam.

Cheers

Bernie
