Goodwood Revival on Speed Channel...
...tonight at 8 p.m. CST. If you're interested in Cobras, GT40s, Ferraris, Listers, etc., then mark that one-hour time slot on the calendar and set your VCR. If not, then...why the heck are you reading this forum?
By way of a warm-up, immediately before the Goodwood show is a one-hour program on Jaguar that should be filled with some of that company's most significant racing cars, including the Lightweight E-types and XJ13.
I don't know why the Goodwood program is only an hour long, when in the past Speed has devoted two hours to covering the event. Hopefully it's part one of two, but it should be good to watch, regardless.
If you miss these shows tonight there are numerous repeats over the next week or two--check the programming guide on Speed Channel's website--

Neat!
Bob,
Thanks for the post. Because of it, I was able to catch about 3/4s of it. Saw the 57-63 race. Really neat watching those guys hang it out there. ...watching Grant Williams pitch that Jaguar MKI 4-door around was awesome and that lil' Mini (hilarious) dicing it up right in the middle of the Lotus Cortina and those Falcons. Can't wait to see part II. Now that's some real wheel to wheel racing... I have a new found respect for those little Mini's after seeing that.

Yah, that was a great show (Goodwood) and prior to it was a wonderful show called Victory By Design which documented the history of Jaguar.
Here is the website for the show....
www.victorybydesign.com
The other shows in the lineup look just super too!
Also on Speed TV was a great segment on the show My Classic Car which did a special on Legendary Fords and the Shelby Cobra and Carroll Shelby were featured. You can order that on VHS or DVD in an expanded 90 minute version (the show was only 30 mins.)
the website for the My Classic Car show is...
www.myclassiccar.com
Cheers!

Duane, did you catch that Mini smoking the front tires at the start? Great stuff! It amazes me how hard the cars are driven in European vintage racing. In part two they'll show the race involving the GT40s, Lola T70s, and a Corvette Grand Sport. Without giving away too much, there was a pretty bad pileup at the start of the race, and some expensive machinery got bent...knowing the English panel-beating industry they're probably all fixed by now.
The Victory by Design series is a nice extension of the original two shows (Ferrari and Porsche), which have been around for five years or so. They really go to lengths to get historically significant cars, do the research on them, and then drive the whee out of them...Alain de Cadenet knows how to pedal a car in a hurry. I see that the whole series is available on DVD...hmmmm...

Wilf where are you? My wife and I want to make a trip to England (she is a HUGE Beatles fan) and I thought what better time then during Goodwood!?
Richard, how about a XJ13 from JBL????? How about a Kirkham XJ13??? One of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. Would fit nicely in the garage next to the Cobra.

XJ13
There are a couple of replica manufacturers of the XJ13 out there. I found one for sale for $85,000 pounds! Not cheap to be sure.

Might this be one of them? I've seen this company's work before. They're not cheap, but they build a beautiful car--

No problem. They list the Revival program again next weekend, but I have been unable to determine if it's Part Two, or just a re-airing of Part One.
Also, if you like muscle cars, on either Thursday or Friday this week they are showing continuous episodes of the "American Muscle Car" series--

I was not familiar with the XJ13 until last night. Jaw dropping. Looks like it could be nicely fitted with a targa roof for all weather cruising.
I don't know if the one for sale was built by that company or not. But it was one sweet machine.
Is there another channel aside from Speed Vision? I blocked out and password protected all the other channels.

The little Mini Cooper S was a riot on wheels!!! With all the BIG cars around it at the start it looked over whelmed and at risk of being crushed!
BUT, it was holding it's own, and that driver was fearless. Dicing it up against that HUGE '63 Galaxie.
Gotta love the Mini's!!!

That was an awesome show....... especially watching that Jag get pitched sideways on every turn, tires smok'n. Could even see the tires 'changing' geometric shapes. The motorcycles and airplanes were pretty darn cool too!!!! Always loved those Spitfires....

I was looking into going next year until I realized that it was the same weekend as the Fling. So much for Goodwood 2004. Maybe 2005?

Rick, are you sure on those dates? There are two Goodwood events each year--the Festival of Speed and the Revival race. The FOS is the "hillclimb" event up Lord March's driveway. It is a great event in it's own right, but the event featured on last night's Speed Channel program is the other one, the Revival race that takes place at the Goodwood circuit. The FOS is usually scheduled, I think, in June, but the Revival is always in September, which I wouldn't think would conflict with the Fling unless it's now the DV Fall Fling...
Go to www.goodwood.co.uk to check out the dates for next year's events--
Edit: The 2004 Revival is September 3-5 per the Goodwood site...

Gotcha. I would give a lot to go to either event, but the Revival is the one that fascinates me. Between the atmosphere--especially with WWII warbirds buzzing the track all weekend--and historically significant cars being driven like they were meant to be, it's on my short list of vintage weekends--
