agree with the above, and i for sure have no clue what factors made Ford decide to call them that. But i wonder if it was because the Windsor motors share a lot with the 289-302 motors. While the Big Blocks are totatlly different. Nowadays, most factory motors seem to be high output 4-6 liter motors, which i would consider Small Blocks, and the big motors are diesels.
