I just picked up some Grand Spirit's from VIP for $85 this weekend. I'd planned on just using them for the build and mock ups but they will see a little break in action some time. They look like they will perform OK on everything but high temps.
Cheers Nick

Brent-

As Jamo mentioned I used these on my ERA and they still had decent tread after 12,000 miles.

I asked a CHP officer (off the street - not one I knew) what he thought of them and he stated that they only care that the tread depth is legal. I pointed out that it stated "Not for Highway Use" on them and he got a little testy at this point and re-stated that "WE DON'T CARE AS LONG AS THEY ARE TREADED AND LEGAL DEPTH!" so I didn't push it any more.

I asked my insurance agent what he thought and he stated that if the claim was a result of using these tires they would not honor it. In other words, if the tire failed and caused the claim they wouldn't pay.

Thanks Pat & Jamo.

I have BFG 295's on back, and I really can't go wider. How do 295's compare to:

B 26.5X10.0-15 GOODYEAR N 27.1 10.20 12.2 on 9.0 7 8 8.5 - 11.0 199.00

Brent

I don't know offhand, but you can research the specs for the BFGs at Tire Rack and compare them. I had 275s on the rear and these do fill the wheelwell up more...a bit taller as well. The profile is different, so while wider at the shoulder, the tread width itself seems about the same.

Brent -

Sometimes "real life" comparisons are better. I compared my rear Goodyears to a friends 305/50's - we lined the tires up tread to tread and they were almost identical.

Called Roger Kraus Racing. In their fitments for cobras with extra large wheels and tires, they have the suitable Goodyear replacements for the BFG's I am replacing. Beautiful looking tires.
Twice the price of the radial T/A's but well worth the cost. I am going to throw the wheels and old tires in the SUV and head down to to Castro Valley in a few days. Thanks for the help.

I forgot... the reason I am going down to Kraus and not having them shipped:
295/50R15 measure 26.5" dia and total width is 13"
265/50R15 measure 25 " dia and total width is 12"
17,000 miles on existing tires.
I can't go another mm wider on the rear width so I think I would be wise to take the wheels and tires in for an exact replacement.

I am looking for the same type of replacement size wise, and I too can't go any wider. Let me know what you find out.
