I sold my 1968 Shelby GT350 my mother bought me from S&C Ford on Dolores Street in San Francisco back in 1968. Yeah, don't say it, I know!

russ,
capone does look pretty good. can you tell me, how do you categorize the car in a loan? if i were to need, say, 65 for an ERA, putting 1/2 down in cash...do i call it an "other" when i fill out the app? i guess it's a new car from a dealer, right?

Hey some great ideas and stories here
Me I did what others have done. Coffee in bed for my wife. Then snuck down to the kitchen and raided her purse.
Didn't get caught!!
Really - just built it over a few years and did not take that holiday etc.
Cheers

Put down "other". They base the loan on you and your credit versus the car itself, although you do have to prove that it's worth what you're paying for it (via an appraisal or a price sheet from one of the manufacturers showing what a factory-assembled car would cost).

Haaa...
I conned my wife!!!
I got back from a buisness trip and suggested dinner out. After a great dinner, more than a few drinks and some romancing...you know , the kind where she is screaming; "yes...yes...yes..." I sneaked in the "let's go look at this cobra" question and the next day we were gone to Portland to look at it. We drove it home the day after. She never came out from under the ether in time to say no!!!
By the way...
I could be mistaken...but this is how I remember it happened!!
Actually...she handed me the checkbook with a huge smile and just enjoyed watching me buy the greatest car I have ever owned!!

Click on the tri-state motorsports link on the club cobra home page. There you will find a financing available link. Research further and they will give you the number do a company that finances cobras and high end cars. They want 30% down and it has to be a turn key or very slightly used car. They will lease the car to you for 60 months with a buyout or ballon at the end. You can opt out of the lease at any time. Call them for more details.

MDP,
the web page for tristates does SAY "financing available", but it's not a link, just text. do you know the name of the company that you're talking about who offers these financing deals?

I have been seeing alot of nice used cobra's for sale on just about every site imaginable. Go to your local banker or one that you deal with on a regular basis and take an appraisal sheet with you, they are willing based on your credit rating. I am financing mine with trade for labor (body), cash, fabrication, cash, swapmeets, cash, buy one part at a time, and did I mention cash. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

The Cobra was a pre-nuptual agreement that was made on our second date. One night (about 3 years ago) I couldn't sleep, so I logged on to ClubCobra at 1 in the morning and some guy had just posted an SPF not yet put together but with almost everything to make it a running car for $38500. I emailed him and said I'd buy it. The next day I told my wife we needed a home equity line of credit. She said okay. Ernies right, the equity line is not tax deductable, at least not here. We re-financed the equity line, the house and the townhouse at 4.25%, then sold the townhouse. I told my wife she could do what she wanted with themoney and she put it in a prefered stock at 7.25%. She's happy, I'm happy and the kids love the car. It's all good. Now how do I hide all the extra's one tends to "need" for the car?
