Default How Many Hurt?

How many members does Club Cobra have that own a Cobra?

Since it's inception, how many Club Cobra car owners have died in a Cobra?

How many hurt?

How many have had accidents?

Steve,

That is going to be a hard one to track down. Almost every member in the club would have to post their history and that would undoubtedly make this one of the longer posts on the club. For my own part, I own a replica Cobra, I have never had an accident, been hurt, or gotten a ticket in it.

Have I ever been accused of starting a long thread before?

Tickets are encouraged. At least it means you drive the car.

Steve,

I do drive my car but mostly on the back roads and in the desert. Around here you get a ticket if you are parked over 30 minutes in the downtown parking garage. Also if they see the same car go through town twice in less than 30 minutes they will pull you over and ticket your for crusing, which is now illegal in Redding. And they can't understand why the downtown area is like a ghost town now. I go down there maybe once a year at most and all of the old stores are closed.

I would find it interesting to know how many Cobra owners have had an accident and NOT gotten badly hurt or killed. Has anyone had a serious crash and thought the Cobra held up fairly well? Or not? What makes were involved? The Taxman (I hope he's recovering well) clearly got badly hurt, but he also had what appears to be a high speed, violent crash.

Hey Red,

You just blew your carma as you answered this thread.

speedraser,

A guy that I know pretty well wrecked his Cobra in the first 4 minutes of driving and really wiped the front end out. Also killed a small tree. He was fortunate and wasn't hurt and the car held up well considering he took out a 4" piece of steel reienforced concrete curbing, went air born and hit a small tree that was only about 6 inches around and had just been planted in that park. Ripped the front suspension off, broke the fender, door, and various other parts. Bent the frame so the engine was setting at an angle. They had to remove the tree and replace the curbing. He had just gotten the car out of the paint shop and took it off the trailer to drive 3 miles to another place where he was going to load it up to haul it home. Bay Area. He said it was the most expensive 4 minutes of driving he ever had.

I suggest a memorial section be started for past and new Cobra losses to our Club. It will remain as a constant reminder and humbling respect section that will live on forever.

On the street, there is no manufacturer's car that is going to save you vis a vis the other. You're a sitting duck.

Question

Speedraser,

Did you receive the e-mail that I sent you using the link on your post? This was to see if it gets through as people are having problems with that and receiving notifications.
As Cal Metal stated, these cars are not going to save you as they are and have always been dangerous. I try to avoid freeway driving as much as I can as I feel very intimidated by an 18 wheeler running alongside me.

I always thought insurance rates for my car were too low, so I'll be happy to answer your question ... maybe later.

Default Quick turn

Casa...
It figures you would put a twist on this serious topic when we have lost some of our own and hear of many wounded on the Cobra battlefield. Wouldn't you want to be remembered on CC if you bit the big one in your kit car? As the Don Rickles of Club Cobra?
PS FYI ..Actuarial tables couldn't be nudged even slightly by a segment of the population so infinitismal.

Smith. Something good can come out of this thread. The dead ones get remembered and the live ones might be more careful.

Ron,
Yes, I got it and I sent a quick reply. Thanks.

Cal,
I have no delusions that these cars are "safe." Nonetheless, the designs under the skin vary tremendously -- for example, some rollbars are just cosmetic -- so it seems likely that the various brands will crash differently, even if none of them performs particularly well in a crash.

If you personally know anyone driving around with a cosmetic only roll bar, I would have a long talk with them about safety. That would not only mean that the bar would not support the car in a flip but would probably act as a harpoon.
