If you do a search, there has been an extensive thread on this over the last couple of weeks. Also, go to cobratrader.com and search for CA registration. Meat has a step-by-step walk through process.
If you have all of your receipts, labor included or at least estimated, you can register the car before you actually have it or have it completed. You need to get the SB100 sequence number and use the 90 day period to go through the rest of the process.
I fall in to this category as well and am gathering all my receipts for a Jan. 2 nd appointment.
If all else fails, a company called Regicar can do it for you, for a fee of course.
Good luck!
