Altered w/b Mustang HELP!!!
Hello all, please forgive me for posting similarly in two places, my mistake, sorry. I need some quick advice and this looks like the place to get it. I will try to keep a long story short here. Due to the recent death of a friend, I have been offered the opportunity to purchase an altered wheelbase fiberglass mustang. The car was originally a holman moody drag car. My friend has owned the car since the late 60's - he saved tons of documentation on the car pics, magazine articles, etc. Anyway, I have a very brief amount of time in which to decide whether to purchase or not. The car is in very good (but not original) condition - currently 514 cid and a 'glide powertrain - (One of his friends made a couple passes in it last summer - @5.01 eighth mile) Does anyone have any idea what this car might be worth or how I might guesstimate it? I have owned a lot of old hi-po Fords, but am lost on this.. Thanks for any guidance you might offer!

Sorry... will supply more details as best I can..
Hmmm looks like a mustang or IS a mustang? Seriously, a hard question.... looks like a 1965 fastback, but body is entirely fiberglass... yes it was built by Ford motor company in the 1960s and delivered to holman/moody in Charlotte, NC (who at the time was one of Ford's 'factory race teams'. Rear wheelwells are about six inches or so forward of the stock location. I think the class was f/x was what he told me. Car was originally an FE engined car (427). The car was built by Ford as a factory drag car. luckily, my friend kept a lot of documentation - it was in several magazines both before and during his ownership. I wish I could be more specific, but I am giving info from memory. I would go look through some of the papers, but at this point, I don't want to attract more attention than necesssary. Just a minute ago, I saw a pic on the history section of this board that is very similar to an old (60's) pic of the car - it may actually be it, but I would not say for sure as I am not sure.
No blower or exotic fuel in its past that I know of.. Absolutely positive this is not a kit car - it is a Ford product.

Worth, that depends on the actual condition and level of detailing on the car. However, figure in the $20,000-$50,000+ range depending on it's pedegree.

Look on the 'Forget the road course -bring on the shelby's thread'- The second car down (gold and white) is almost identical to the car as it appeared in the 60's (albeit with different paint). I have no question as to the car's authenticity, I have known the owner (R.I.P.) since I was a kid and my uncle went with him to pick it up way back when. I am in a position where I want to pay a fair price for the car, but I don't want to overpay--- I also don't want to stir a bunch of attention and start a bidding war.
I will supply whatever info I can, I just have no idea what it is worth...

Thanks mrmustang for the info. It pedigree is long and pretty well documented. There are pictures from the day he brought it home. I know this because he kept an 8x10 of the day he got it on the wall of his office. Originally, it had Holman&Moody on the sides and a big CP competition proven on the front fenders as best I remember. Wife said that if I bought the car, I could have all the old pics and magazines of it -- she loved him, but didn't care much for his car...
