Thumbs up Kirkham Cobra ... what a car

Just spent a couple of months lurking on this site and learning as much as I can..... You guy's are great sharing your knowledge with all of us new to the Cobra world.

Spent two days this week working with David and Steve Kirkham trying to figure out a car we could put together....

What a professional bunch of guy's from the top down... and I wasn't easy to please having a long history of racing under my belt.

Like many racers ... you have your own opinions and ways to do things and David K. handled all of the objections and concerns I had.... plus he had to squeeze me into the car..... and did.... not quite as slim as I use to be.....

Anyway as a new guy to the club.....your experienced and advise has been more than appreciated and hopefully I can return the favor as time goes on.....

Morris

Chuck
Thanks for the response.... what engine are you planning on building and installing... ?

Venon
I'm on my way home to send them some money and get things started...

BTW the new Billet suspension pieces that David K has come up with are excellant.... and offer many benefits that will come into play with when dialing in a chassis.... ie... bumpsteer... camber gains and toe changes.... well done and should handle better although I'm not a fan of high spring rates....I'm told it will be just fine...

Morris,

Many thanks again for coming down to the shop. If I were spending that much money, I'd certainly have more questions than even you asked.

I really enjoyed talking to you. It is not very often we have real race car drivers in the shop who know what they want, question everything we do, and really understand the difference between a race car and a street car.

I don't mind your questions at all. I think mechanics who take offence at other mechanics checking their work are fools. 2 sets of eyes are always better than one.

We seem to be getting a lot of big guys around here lately. I think I may have to put a change order into Poland to permanantly move the pedals back, widen the seats, and dent the rear wheel well panel. Just thinking right now how we could do that and keep everything happy. You know how it goes--if you move the exhaust brackets, you will end up changing the tail lights to make them fit!!!

BTW, Your stainless chassis will be VERY nice. They seem to be the chassis of choice right now. Remember, you came on a good day for us and thanks for lunch. My guys really appreciated it.

David

Jamo,

Flat seat tracks are in the works...I PROMISE!!! Tomek was working on the today and they will be done TOMORROW!!!

Taking out the wall, cleaning out the shop, dealing with the flu bug, and delivering cars has about killed me this year. (We did have a good year though, thank goodness.)

Speaking of seats...

Tomek did a lot of seat work today. We did some surgery on a seat today for Morris. I may have to send you our new seat when we are finished. Specially construncted to be 3 inches wider on the left side of the driver's seat--wider by about 3 inches, (for those who need a little more space).

David

Gracias David...Tom said the wider seat would probably work great. One thing about us big guys, we appreciate those extra efforts.

Hey Jay, bite my a.... That'll keep him busy for awhile.

Jamo is so right.... and fitting in the car is the most important feature the car offers....

It has to fit like a glove or you'll never get the most out of the car....

Thanks Guy's for making a new comer feel at home....

Question I've always had. Many, if not most, of the Kirkhams are left with a brushed aluminum finish. Were any of the 63-67 Shelby cobras delivered like that and left unpainted?

Default Larger person option

Perhaps a "JAMO" signature model should come with a retractable "Jaws of Life" option?
Merry Christmas, ya'll.

David:

I would be happy to be the guinea pig for the "Big and Tall" version enough if it pushes my deliver date back.

Lew,

Guinea pigs are welcome any time. We are looking forward to having you come out for the final fitment.

Who says big and tall guys won't fit?

Anything for the smiles!

David

David:

I have every confidence that you guys can make it work. After two kids and with my 40th birthday approaching, I am beginning to realize that I will get bigger and bigger, though probably not any taller. I guess I could always bring the car back in a few years to have you guys "let a little out" if needed.

Pat

1984 GT-2 Nat Champ - Datsun 280Z
1987 GT-2 Nat Champ - Nissan 280ZX
1989 GT-1 Nat Champ - Corvette (Motor was a stressed member of the chassis). Like a Indy car running backwards....

We were very lucky...and ran 1st,2nd or 3rd From 1979 to 1989 at the Championships....
We raced Midwest and Central Divisions.

Haven't talked about it much since 1989... sure feels good to be getting back in the grove....

Morris, a pleasure to know you online and I look forward to your insights. Send me your camber and other suspension settings as soon as you have them to your liking . Why do I have the feeling they will be close to the Kirkhams....
