Question Winston Cup cars......where to buy !!

I know some of our members,
(CSX4027 and John W.) have bought
NASCAR Winston Cup cars to vintage
race.

Where do you find them ???

Are there dealers, or a club like ours???

Just wanting to research a safer car
to race in.

Thanks,
Bill Cook

Wicked,
I have done alot of research on this.
Depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a car with full documentation for Historics than Gene Felton is the best. But the most expensive. And remember for Historics it needs to be pre 94' .If you are looking to club race Than arcaracing.com or racingwest.com is the place to go. They will even have the Cup history if the car has one. I am on my third cup car. I also have a contact of a 2002 ex Rusty Wallace road course that is in top notch condition and has never been wrecked. I will find out how much. I have gotten big into club racing with my Cup car so let me know if you need help.

Gene Felton usually always has something.

Also, www.race-cars.com has some that can be had. Just got me a 1994 Grand Prix from Gene yesterday.

TC - 944 power didn't entertain for long? I don't blame you - I couldn't get around in something known primarily for it's handling and then lollygaging down the straights. Congrats! Is your K-Car up yet? Also, is your VM broken?

WF,
The car that is currently driven by Tommy Houston's son is a 1992 chassis Thunderbird and would be perfect at the price I heard on it from a bud that want one for the same.
He, however, now has to add a new Master Bedroom/Bath before he can buy it.
The car has a wee bit of heritage as a racer, driven in NASCAR events, and is reasonable when it comes to a vintage car. Just look at the prices the real NASCAR winners or top 10 drivers cars bring, whew, we thought our COBRAs were costly.

Thumbs up Toy C !!!

Great looking car !!

I would love to have a Petty car.
#44 Hot Wheels would be the ultimate.

How are the spares (engines) for the Pontiac
cup cars ??
I see all kinds of Chevy and Ford engines, but
never a Pontiac ??

Also, would the Cup team shops ever sell the older cars
to the public ??

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Happy holidays,
Bill Cook

Even though it is a "pontiac" it is Chevy powered. The Nascar teams usually clear out last years models so to speak and they eventually end up in the hands of privateers or collectors. Obviously some historically significant cars may be kept for the team's own collections, etc.

Default Bill Cook

The shop that built my car has the Waltrip Pennzoil Pontiac for sale and a whole lot of others. If you want send me a private e-mail with a number to contact you. I can get you a great deal now that it is the slow time for the south.

Why not look into a Busch car too? If you're not into the historical aspect of the car, could a Busch car be had for less $$$$ with the same results?

TC,

Great looking Cup Car. Looks like you might need to add on to your garage.

Just remember:
A Cup car that is in good race ready condition costs $1000 /hr. to operate in club racing.
A Cup car that is "shoddy" in any way costs 5 to 10 times that amount per hour to run. I say get the best car to start with that you can afford.
We have a pretty good time at these events, the racing is fun but serious, now with TC out there it is getting competitive too.

Oh my gosh, that's right, my wife could be reading this.
A new motor is only $387.00
it costs $18 to rebuild a transmission.
The race organizer donates the entry fees to childrens charities.
Seriously, my wife would stop buying powdered milk if she knew how long the ten dollar tires lasted.
I was just trying to make the point that there are some "used up" cars for sale out there, and they are not cheaper to run than a good one with low time components. Buying one is similar to purchasing an airplane. On the good side, you get a lot of bang for the buck with the Histiric Cup car series. It is cheaper than running in PCA racing with say a Porsche 996 Cup car.
TC, nice car. I love the "high downforce" "dropped snout" nose on that car. I've seen Gene Felton turn a 1:27 at Road Atlanta in that car, and you'll be getting a lot of respect and elbow room out on the track until folks realize that Felton sold the car !!
