"They asked if it was real, I said Yep"
"Hey guys look at what I found in the magazine, someone took a pic of my car"
"CSX shouldn't be in comparison with the cars you've named because it's a Real Cobra"
"Most accurate cobra since the demise of whatever"
What do these comments have in common?
Every thread I've ever seen you enter has started in someway of your car being superior to others. Talk about insecurity! I'm sure my kids are cuter than yours but I don't keep telling you that.

Marathon
Come on guys,
You have to admit, if this was a marathon we all would have lost to Evan YEARS ago. He sets a pace that I can not match, and like Forrest Gump, runs coast to coast without stopping.
He has kept up in face of abuse, humor, facts (besides his facts), and general insults. What POW could have kept up in the face of such torture? This long?
I am glad you guys are trying to keep him in line.

At the local car shows at the Quaker Steak or Tony Romas or a venue of that type... I just pull the car in, raise the hood and then walk away from it... I go sit about three cars away and just BS until I'm ready to go home... I don't have to answer the "is it real" question and have a great time....Besides, I really don't know much about the car anyway... If someone asks what kind of engine it is I'm stuck... I know it's a Ford but after that I'm lost..
I just drive it till it breaks and then get it fixed... I just have a ball with that car.....
My uncle was in WW ll also... He was in N. Africa, Sicily, Anzio and the south of France... The MP's finally caught up with him on the German border and arrested him for desertion.... He said it was a good ride while it lasted.... Gosh he was a fun guy.....

Rangers and WWII Vets
Evan:
I have the utmost respect for the guys who served, fought and died in WWII (as well as other wars). If your father is still alive, tell him I said thanks for all he did.
My Dad was in the 44th Combat Engineer Battalion. 59 years ago tonight he was trapped behind German lines after they broke through the American lines during the Battle of the Bulge. Although relatively unknown, the 44th has been described in one book as the US combat unit that suffered the most during the battle for the Ardennes . It was decimated and no longer able to function as a combat unit. He hid, ran, and survived for three days and three nights, before finding his way back. He still has nightmares and cries when he talks about the friends he lost. After almost 60 years.
Dad has suffered 8 confirmed heart attacks over the last 14 months. His wish is to live until next spring so he can see the WW II Memorial dedicated in DC. I pray that he makes it, I have serious doubts.
We should never forget the price of our freedom has been the sacrifice and blood of others. God bless 'em.

I started this thread and It was not my intent to cause turmoil here. All I really wanted to know was if my Shell Valley Cobra was a decent REPLICA of a Cobra or not as compaired to some of the others out there.
I think the point has been made that your car is what you make it and the beauty of having one of these fine machines is that we can make them as close to an original as possible or build them to suit us individually.
I just wanted a cool car to cruise around in with my beautiful wife. I have wanted a Cobra REPLICA for years and finally had the opportunity to buy one and have some fun making it into something I can be proud of, close to an original LOOKING Cobra but yet driveable for nice cruises.

CSX envy?...WOW, that's strange. How does a person go about deciding when others are envious of their material posessions? The CSX4 series is a masterpiece of a replica and so is the Kirkham and others. In many respects even nicer than the originals. While I have the financial means to purchase a top notch exacting CSX, my Shell Valley car fits my needs more adeptly. I wanted a race car. Something to withstand frequent abuse at dragstrips and on the street. My car was purposebuilt for my needs(ie:run hard). I do not need a specific vehicle ID tag to define my station in life. I believe there are a few CSX owners that think they are on a higher pedistal in life because of the brand kit-car they own. That is a character flaw which can not be rectified by the purchase of a particular car. I would have no desire to tell the general stranger that what they're looking at is one of the original 60s era Cobras that they worshiped. That wouldn't make me feel any better and the generally less knowledgable admirer on the street who asks 'is that a real Shelby Cobra?' is really only asking if it is one of the cars built back in the 60s. They are not interested in hearing rationalizations of why one can legally call their car a Shelby Cobra in a court of law. Unless it was built in 196_ & sent here through a time machine one can not purchase the 'real Shelby Cobra' that all people are dreaming of get a glimpse at. Though... I am guilty of envy, but it is of Carroll Shelby.

Gman, Is your wife an original beauty or a replica of an original beauty? Just kidding! I have a Shell Valley & it's a good strong safe car for you to cruise in. See you at Atco & E-town in the spring.

Steve: Thanks for your kind words. Very simply, you are right. Everyone takes pride in what the own. Everyone will look to defend what they have against perceived assaults. Granted.
My point has been simple but yet distorted my some.
Its no secret my car isn't original. I don't pretend it is and no, if asked if it is I don't say it is either.
Is it a replica of the orignal? Yes. Is it a replica of a Cobra. No. It is a Cobra factually and legally.
Is it that I'm am putting myself on a pedestal by saying this??? Does saying this make it better, whatever that may mean than an ERA or what you have? Depends on what your definition of better is.
Does it denigrate my car and other Continuation Cobras by saying or implying they are just "kits" or just "replicas" when the reason guys bought their Continuation Cobras was because part of the attraction was they were buying genuine Cobras and legally and factually accepted by SAAC as such.
By simply pointing to the Continuation Cobra and factually pointing out what it legally and factually is how does that denegrate a guy with something else?
No one with a Continuation Cobra has ever suggested they are as special, collectible, desirable or valuable as the originals.
I know there are some people around here that don't like me and routinely knock me because of my unwaivering position on this issue.Thats fine because the more they knock me just proves my point evenmore i.e, some are just envious and pissed because they would rather have a Shelby deep down and can't repond factually because factually I'm right. This is not all however nor do I intend to include everyone description. Some are just nasty bitter ...well never mind.
I also recognize that there are some that just don't care about having a CSX and would really rather have what they bought. Those guys are clearly identified because they usually don't knock the Contiuation series in justifying what they bought instead. I respect that.
If I said to you your car isn't a REAL Cobra is that a surprise to you? So why would that be insulting? Did you think it was a REAL Cobra when you bought it?
If you said to me I don't consider your Cobra an original Cobra would that be a surprise to me or an insult? Nope.
If you said to me my Cobra wasn't a REAL Cobra and was just a kit replica would that be insulting. Yes. Why? Because thats what it is (a Cobra) legally and factually. In short you are telling me my car is not what it was represented to be by its originator, Shelby American at time of purchase and what was part of the bargain. A REAL Cobra of the Continuation series. What the problem with that? Now I fully expect the usual wisea$$ remarks here from the usual few, but you should understand what I'm saying.
My intent is not to insult or denegrate anyones car. I can't help it if some take it that way when I point to the facts in the context of an argument or discussion.
What I state about the Continuation Cobra isn't my "opinion" its raw fact. I didn't create the facts. I'm just pointing them out. Some can't stand the facts and will twist what I say whenever possible.
Anyway, to briefly digress, I'm sure you know the engineer battalions during the Battle of the Bulge were critical to the eventual defeat of the German offensive. Without the terrific and heroic work of the engineers in destroying crucial bridges, many times under fire, the Germans would have been able to move a number of their heavy Panzer divisions effectively cutting off a large part of the Allied force and capturing a very stragtegic French port. Might have turned the tide of the war.
God bless your Dad. Unfortunately todays generation is losing sight of what that generation did for us and all future generations. I'm sure you are very proud of him as you should be.
I have a shadow box set up in my den with my fathers medals, discharge papers, German Lugar he took off a German SS Lt. near the German border after destroying a half track with his squad, his Sykes Camando knife, the shells from his 21 gun salute from his funeral and the American Flag presented to my mother by the Military Honar guard and some little articles on Army Rangers. Kind of my little memorial to him.
Regards.
Eric: Man that camparison of me to Forrest Gump running coast to coast without stopping was excellent! I loved it!
It totally energized me!

RECOGNIZING THE INNOCENCE OF YOUR POSITION AND THE PURITY OF YOUR PURPOSE YOU MUST ALSO LOOK ABOUT YOU AT THE HAVOC THAT YOU HAVE FOSTERED.
LET THIS BE A LESSON TO YOU, SIR.
NO GOOD DEED OR INTENT EVER GOES UNPUNISHED.
IT TAKES ONLY THE SMALLEST REED - JUDICIOUSLY POKED AT THE HORNETS NEST - TO CREATE THE TURMOIL WHICH YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED.
AT ANY RATE YOU HAVE PROVIDED ONE AND ALL (READ AS "EVAN" AND "ALL THE REST") WITH YET ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO CONFUSE, BEFUDDLE AND TOTALLY OBFUSCATE THE ETERNAL ENDEAVOR TO ESTABLISH JUST WHAT THE HELL IS REAL AND WHAT AIN'T.

Hmmm...lets see:
a. The hr ball Reggie Jackson hit out in the 1978 world series.
b. the autographed ball that Reggie Jackson just sold to you.
c. a baseball.
I guess I own c. It looks like the ball RJ hit out of the park. I suppose I could tell people it's the ball from the 1978 World Series. Who would know?
The autographed ball is really nice and more valuble than the regular baseball. Many people would like to own it, but it can never be the ball used during the game in 1978. It was sewn together over 25 years ago and used by the players of the 1978 W.S.- until Jackson booted it over the wall. No amout of spitshine, coveting, even authorization from Jackson can make any other ball the one used in 1978 to win the World series.........
holy shnikees....you guys are right i can't see! I guess I'm done, unless I can get me one of them thar braille keyboards!
P.S. Mr. Real 1, I don't know you, so don't assume dislike you.
