Question New Sbf 9 Cylinder

Dear all Cobra Club Members
Last week, Mr Yvon Nouberner (President of the French "Mustang, Pony & Donkey car's Club"), during the annual Club dinner has announced : (see translation here below)
Quote" The "Mustang, Pony & Donkey car's Club is proud to reveal that a new Ford experimental 9 cylinder engine will be available in few months in the French market. In fact, this new 9 cylinder is a classic 8 cylinder SBF equipped with an additional ninth cylinder to "digest" the unburnt exhaust gas and to reduce the pollution. This new concept permits to delete the classic catalytic system and consequently, to reduce drastically (105°) the camshaft lobe separation center. This additional cylinder is located at the rear side (just in front of the valley wall) in the middle of the valley center. A new casting block has been designed (with a relocated rear camshaft bearing) as well as a new crankshaft (with 3 connecting rod in the last rod pin), a new camshaft and a new additional cylinder head.
Global results can be resumed as follow:
- Lower CO2 emission at low rpm,
- No loss of torque,
- Power and specific consumption slightly increased at high rpm (due to the new camshaft characteristics)
However, according to Mr Yvon Nouberner, the more significant result is the "user agreement" (that is noted several time in the French Ford Research and Development report).
To conclude, it is obvious that if the French market experience is
positive, this new 9 cylinder engine production will be extended in the world market.
"Unquote
If my translation is not clear enough, technical and enthusiastic people will find here attached, a confidential engine picture (with the Mustang, Pony & Donkey car’s Club agreement).
Happy Christmas and all the best to all AC Cobra Club members.

I hope it does better than the 7 cylinder engine we developed here in US!

Nanard -

Does that extra cylinder count toward the total engine displacement?

I have heard rumors of this powerplant for about two years now and your posting is the first to provide details. Thank you.

Is this a big block or a small block?

Could you please let me know how to contact Mr. Yvon Nouberner as there may be a market for that engine in the USA. Road Serpents, a US manufacturer of Cobras is searching for an engine as all of the domestic suppliers have them blackballed.

...no surprise to me.

Genesis has had that vintage for over a year now.

This is a foul and typical French theft of an original English idea.

What we proposed was to filter the exhaust through a pint of Best English Bitter. This removed all pollutants, gave 50% better miles per gallon, 62% more BHP and torque, and also bestowed X-Ray vision upon the driver, all the better to cruise past the High Schools at closing time.

Last, but not least, it warmed up the beer to drinkable temperatures, and improved the taste.

So typical of our neighbours across the Channel to steal another fine british invention.

At least they were smart enough not to steal a British electrical invention.

Turk - I tried my own interpretation of a 7 cylinder 460 big block. The "hole in the side of the block" modification allowed extra crankcase ventilation, but the piston obviously wasn't convinced about the merits of my work....

Red face extra crankcase ventilation

Hey 750hp, you have to use a drilling machine to add a window in your crankcase, don't use any more the dynamite ! About your piston, the positive point is that your first ring groove looks OK. Unfortunately, other investigation points are negative.

Default Funny I heard the 9th cylinder...

I heard the 9th cylinder was to store cheese ans a white flag of surrender. I wish the cheese eating surrender monky's well in whatever they do. You never know this could be as popular as the 3 lug nut Le Car, who knows. (who cares)

Only the french would have an 9 cylinder. Keep it in the trunk and use the extra as a spare
