Let's build a cobra for $10K!
With all the big money thown around lately for the base cars at $42k. Would anybody be interested in a Cobra built for us poor folks, at or under $10K.With some carefull shopping at the swaps, and my 30+years of playing with cars, I can show you how. Maybe we can get 'Werks to have a sticky photo gallery to follow progress. Anybody game?

Knock yourself out, Brucie...
...a "This Old House" series for building a budget Cobra!
You make the parts list and start documenting from the cement up...I'll take care of the graphics.

Ok, I'm game. You design and build it, Ron will make the graphics happen, and I'll market and sell it.......................

Okay
Just so I understand, are we going to build just one car with a price tag not to exceed $10K?
Or, are you suggesting there are kits put together for people who are willing to pay $10k?
If it is a single car, and it goes to a good cause, I'm in ( as long as the boss is okay with it).
If it is a kit, I think the best you are going to come up with is the "mustang make over". There are a few of those around.
What are talking about here???

Re: This Old Cobra
Scene 1:
Background, the camera pans slowly from the old car sitting outside MrBruce's to the now partially opened old wooden doorway leading to his shop, inside is a pile of steel tubing, a body buck, a raw fiberglass shell, a large tool box and enough welding equipment to make any welder green with envy.
Soft rock music plays in the background (perhaps Springsteen, Born in the USA, or Born to Run)
Bill: Hi I'm Bill "mrmustang" S.and welcome to "This Old Cobra" and this is our master builder Bruce C. Why not tell them what our project for today is going to be.
Bruce: Today we are going to be building a Cobra from scratch for a budget of just under $10,000. using the tools and materials behind us. With a little creative parts scrounging, and enough time, we'll have this car ready for the road courses of the north east in no time flat.
Alright, let's get started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All Mr Bruce's idea, I cannot take credit for it...........I'll just help him along as time goes by...................Wonder if we could actually do a TV series on it........"Budget Building with MrBruce"(tm).......................Start with the Cobra, move on to the Daytona Coupe, and move on from there............I envision a whole series of "real world priced" automotive build ups

Bruce,
In the past I have volunteered to be your test driver for your newest toy.
Based on the estimated cost of your new project, I respectfully withdraw my offer.
Pehaps someone with a death wish will step forward.
Regards,
Cranky

Roger,
If the parts and labor are donated, I do not see why the car could not be built safely.

Bill, If the parts and labor are donated then the cost would be zero.
If you guys are serious then disregard my earlier post.

Roger,
Chassis parts and labor, suspension and misc drivetrain would have to be sourced carefully.

Bill.
If this is a go I'll make the first donation,
I got a nice set of SVO GT40 aluminun heads that have been ported including Bolt on Roller rockers. Good for a 302 just OK for a 351.
If your making a list add these.

Hey, No thread hijackin' alowed
We can spend all winter, arguing the same old crap, big/smallblock, call each other names, etc.Seems like the club is going nowhere.Go to your Brooklands Shelby Cobra Gold Portfolio, page 70/71. That's what I have in mind. Safe car?, this car will pass Pennsylvania Safety Inspection regulations, the toughest in the country. Parts I already have: toploader, 302,windsheild, body shell (slabside, sorry MrMustang, no FiA)wheels, tubular front A-arms, spindles,11" ECI brake kit ,8" Ford rear, drum brakes. I'll factor these existing parts into the overall price. This would be nice to become a Jenny car, but it would be tough to hit the June event. Besides ,I have something else in a Jenny sized car for this year.
