Question question for SPF 460 bb owners

are any of you using the blue thunder heads, the new trick flow or jon kaase's SCJ. If so did you have to alter anything in the engine bay, to make it fit. Like headers, drive shaft and so on. MY other question is can my alumn. cobra jet be ported out to make the same hp.

thanks

CF
I have a 460 crate engine w/CJ heads and although I can't answer your question I sometimes go to the 429-460 engine forum and post questions. It has worked for me.

I am using the new Jon Kaase heads in my SPF. They are a stock OEM replacement item so everything works like the original iron heads. Here is the link describing them.

http://www.jonkaaseracingengines.com...d_s_new_s.html

Even though the valves changed positions slightly, there was no need to notch the KB hypereutectic pistons. My Crane hydraulic roller cam has .59 Intake lift and .614 Exhaust lift. I did leave .005 on the deck in case the block ever needs to be decked again. This gave a streetable 9.94 to 1 CR. I went with the 2.25" valves. I also like the fact that the new intake position produces the same HP, but with less advance, thereby reducing the threat of detonation.

The power made by these heads helped Jon Kaase win the engine HP shoot-out against Chevy and Dodge.

There are some pictures in my gallery of the components.

You might want to contact Eric at Performance Engineering, he has built many different 385 series (460) engines and installed them in Superformance Cobra's.

I have the 385 block in mine. I dont think anything was altered to get it in. I have the aluminium CJ heads and the BT intake. I am having a bear of a time getting the two plugs out to change them on the drivers side closest to the firewall. I thought I would take out part of the steering column to give me more room, but it looks like more trouble than it is worth.
I switched over to the external hydraulic clutch and the fork ass'y is less than an inch from the brake lines on the frame rail. The way the engine spins it misses the lines but it is very close. I have a makeshift torque strap from the engine to the frame for now, but next year I would like something more permanent(with a heavy-duty turnbuckle) this is not something you can just buy and bolt-on, it has to be fabricated. This with better motor mounts ought to keep the engine more confined. My side pipes smacked the exit side hole so the torque strap is more of a nessesity than a cool add-on.

thanks for the replies
i got the blue thunder intake too with 2 600 holley's, want more power though. So I'm kind of debating weather to sell my existing heads to the heads i mentioned or port them out if i can
get the same power. Because I heard it from guys that i'll have room problem or have to fabricate custom headers. Can't remember if they were SPF owners.

More power!?! I have the same setup as you and the dyno showed oner 500 lbs of torque at 4000 rpm. I cant punch the throttle in 1st 2nd or 3rd without the tires breaking loose and sliding sideways. More power than this is just unusable in this car.
