Default period correct pipes and roll hoop

I've heard and read that the original Cobra's had side pipes and roll hoop painted black. In fact, I've read this in my "new" copy of the AC and Cobra Original Restorer's Guide (a Christmas present from my lovely wife!).

However, on the cutaway poster of CSX3022 the side pipes and the roll hoop are both chrome.

I like the chrome pipes and hoop, for I plan on a black Cobra and like the contrast, but I also like the "period correct" concept.

So, here's the question: Are the chrome side pipes and roll hoop "period correct" for the 427 S/C? Are there any original Cobra owners out there that can shed some light on this subject? What are some example cars that have the chrome, by CSX number?

Oh, and before you tell me "do what you want", rest assured that I will. I'd just like to know if the chrome side pipes and roll hoop are period correct to the original Cobras from the 60's.

Cheers,
DKing

The Cobra on the cover of your new book is owned by Ned
Scudder, the Cobra registrar for SAAC. If anyone knows those details, he should. His rollbar and side pipes are black, and I have sked him directly in the past, and, as I recall, his answer was-"black".

Default SCCA Regional Event Winner 1966

Dking,
The CSX3022 was the DOCKERY Ford car out of New Jersey in 1966. It was gold with a black stripe, typical comp interior (black), black roll bar and side pipes. If I remember Bob Grossman drove the car on occasion and bent it up on a few of them, but he won also.
It started as a Comp car and didn't sell and wound up at Dockery in full Comp trim but sold as the "new" SC series car for less money.

My copy of Dave Kimble's drawing of CSX3022 has white pipes and chrome roll bar. Some of the vintage film and many of the "stills" show white or black pipes (heat paint = low maintenance & best bang for the $$). The heat or header paint was new on the market & very popular in the Hot Rod culture during the 60's. We used it on the headers and exhaust tips on many of the muscle cars during that era. Friday after noon part of the detailing ritual before the weekend & cruise was getting out the spray can!
