Censorship On Clubcobra
While I don't defend any thread that has been "closed" recently, it does seem that it is happening more often. I was under the impression that if there was a thread getting out of hand , the moderator would make a comment about it and if it kept getting "bad" than the thread would be "closed". Recently a moderator has come in and without any feedback from forum members decided the thread must end. This has happened several times recently.
Again, I am not defending any thread "closed" recently. Just discussing what I have seen recently.
HAPPY NEW YEAR...

I like it, it is way past time the moderators just do what needs to be done. Lock some threads that are out of line, no need for feedback all the time. Sometimes it is just "obvious" it needs to be done! Works for me.
This is WAY better than many other Forums where the "rules" are SO tight you can't begin to express your opinion. I think we have a LOT of freedom here, use it wisely, or lose it.

Bandit...
Simply stated, the moderator's task is to maintain the Forums to the guidelines set down by the owner (Brent).
That means.. to try and keep this place as pleasurable an experience as possible for all the members.
We try our best to let the members moderate themselves. There are few hard and fast written rules; most of us know when something is out of line.
The mundane tasks are to keep threads on-topic; the most difficult tasks are to keep peace in the family.
Sometimes, it means "suggesting"..at other rare times, it can require action first. When things get ugly or potentially "incendiary", a moderator can take action based on his judgement. That's the rules.
Happy new year and enjoy the forum.

BANDIT 1,
As a moderator on one of brents other sites, I can tell you it is not an easy task. We are all damned if we do, and dmaned if we don't. it's like walking a tightrope, or playing with a very sharp double edged sword.
Sincerely,
Bill S.

Bandit,
I frankly think the problem has been people who are not listening to some direction from the moderators. And frankly, some of that direction has been pretty CRYSTAL clear. Every move made has my support. Censorship is when something is REMOVED, and that has not happened. Closing a few because some people can't tone it down I hope will get certain behaviors to curtail and be corrected.

Well, we could put you on the mailing list for notification.
Or, do it yourself... just search the current threads with more than 50 posts and more than 500 views...
...with any of the following key words or phrases:
1. SAI
2. CAV
3. Real
4. Who makes the best...
5. Evan
6. Which replica is..
...you will quickly find the hot spots!
(Uh-oh...giving away moderator secrets)

Must be that new damn moderator. Ban the basturd!
Ron's said it all. You do have our guarantee that any Evan bashing will not be shut down for at least five pages...more if it's good stuff.

I have never believed in censorship and most of the threads that have disappeared I have never posted to or read them anyway. What has bothered me is when an individual was banned, but all is usually forgotten and they are let back to post. What we should be looking into is where has some of our senior members gone that have left because of some of these posts.

Look, we all believe in freedom of speech, and we all know that freedom of speech is limited to where you're at. If you were in a movie theater and started talking to everyone around you about what you wanted to talk about, will you be escorted out? Yes. So there is precedence for limiting freedom of speech.
What about if your at a club meeting face to face....Say you all begin a discussion and it turns ugly....Is it hard to imagine that someone on the club board, or the president of that club, or... might say something like "this is going nowhere, lets move on to planning the car show/race?" Infringing on freedom of speech, or common sense?
Another example might be that when Ron (computerworks) trailed a bunch of trolls a few weeks back deleting 100 or so posts trying to post a bunch of spam on the site.....Should he have left it? Freedom of speech, right?
While this place will continue to be a source for industry news, more importantly, this is a place for building relationships....Some of these threads turn into back and forth spats, and they loose credibility no matter how many good bits of information within (assuming you search/read the entire thread)....Sometimes it's just time to stop talking about the same thing....And if you can't take repeated hints, what is left to do? Think about this before you question the work that Computerworks & Jamo have done. you should be thanking them.

I not only support what the moderators have done but have felt that at times they let to much go on. The moderators have a very thankless job and on this club they have did a great job. If anyone feels that their freedom of speech has been trampled on, what is to keep them from leaving and posting on other clubs. One thing is that not only would the posts be deleted so would the person. As Brent stated in an earlier post, RESPECT other people and their opinions, but the personal bashing doesn't belong here. And as the club gets larger it is going to become harder to keep things level. So instead of complaining about loss of freedom of speech, read some of the threads listed in earlier posts.

For those who are either ignorant, pourly informed or are not living on this site, could someone please let us know what this is all about?
I understand that there have been some treads removed. Could we get some details?
Just wondering.

No posts or threads have been removed (other than the ambushers Ron tracked down, and even those are stored...never removed). We closed some threads to prevent further posting when discussions went south in a big way. We split some threads so that offending or truly different subject posts could be put in another thread, and allow the original thread to continue. We also closed some threads temporarily to allow cooling down and/or to allow us some time to split them.
Could a post be actually removed? Yes. We have simply used other means.
