Default Registration Roundup " What to expect when licensing a kit car "

Reference the February 2004 edition of Car and Driver, page 11 for the article by Harold Pace.

To quote " Every year 3000 Americans embark on kit-car assembly projects. Every year, some 2,700 of those folks actually complete one, And at that point, they face one final hurdle-getting the minions of their respective state motor vehicle departments to acknowledge their creations as cars. If you are among those who have invested a year or more of bleeding knuckles, second degree burns and howls of frustration, take heart. "

" State by State Guide to Registration:

Tough: Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, North Dakota, Utah

Moderate: Those not mentioned in Tough or Easy

Easy: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma. "

Above referring to mechanical inspections and emissions, degree of difficulty from intensive to less involved to simple.

" Kit-Car registration may be the ONLY automotive event involving government bureaucracy that is actually getting easier " Yes, this is a quote from the article.

The Car and Driver web site still has the January edition posted, in case you wish to check at a later date

Sunday there will be yet another meeting of "Cobra" owners here in Hawaii in regards to licensing issues.

We are gathering momentum, the outlook is encouraging. I wish "tough" was an accurate description of the local policy. Tough would be way easier than the reality I've seen.
