Default top loader w/shifter for sale

I recently changed to a 6 speed transmission. Now I have a 35k
mile Top Loader with Hurst Shifter for sale.
The trans tag # rug ar1, is from a 70 Fairlane 351 wide ratio
2.78:1. This trans is 24" long. The shifter is a Competion Plus
Super Shifter, 8" stright chrome handle w/white 4 speed shift
pattern ball. This shifter has stright shift rods.
I had no problems with the trans, or shifter when removed.
Perfer to sale together. $600.00 obo. plus shipping.

Don

Don,
I have an old top loader behind my 428CJ which I'm thinking of either rebuilding (pops out of 3rd) or changing over to a 5 speed. Never thought of a 6 speed. Was the new 6 speed much longer than the top loader? Was this a simple in and out?
Thanks,
Bob Faust

Robert

I think you may have a problem with getting the six speed to bolt up. I think Don went to the T-56 and it does not come ready to attach to the 428.

I could be wrong on this, but I think it is limited to the 289 - 351 bolt pattern.

Just a thought.

Default Top Loader for sale

Robert,
I would not say it is an in and out at least in a Contemporary. The
T-56 I have came from a 2003 Mustang Cobra. It will not bolt up
to any small or big block Fords with out adaptor plates.
The route I chose (keep my Lakewood blow shield) required an adpator plate, input shaft, clutch disc, and pilot bearing change.
Mcleods is able to provide you with all the necessary parts. Talk with Red Roberts on the tech line #714 630 3668, let him know what you want to do.
The t-56 is a tall transmission all the way back to the drive shaft.
The trans is about 3" longer then the top loader with the adaptor plates, although the shifter is in about the same position. I had to shorten the drive shaft from 10 1/2" to 5 3/4". The crossmember was moved to the rear 5".
Do a search, I believe there is a thread under t-56 Classic Roadsters. DV gives his imput.

good luck

Don
