My first drive today.... :D
SPS #747 arrived last night and I took her for a few drives earlier today. Of course, I had to fend off all the neighbors and give each of them the 20 minute disertation on the car, etc.
So I took my 12 year old son with me on the first "journey". Now keep in my mind that my vanity tags, which are registered in my name, were on the car. But I haven't gotten the car registered officially yet. So I was sort of breaking the law....
We're cruising the main throughfare in town and I'm having a blast blipping the throttle in between shifts (see Steve McQueen in "Bullitt" for the appropriate sound track), when out of left field comes a black and white patrol car ON MY AZZZZ!!! Great, Deano, just great! You've hit the loud pedal one too many times and managed to attract the local constable! You @#&^$@ stupid idiot!
So he tucks behind me real close and I'm just waiting for him to move his right arm toward the key pad and punch in the plate. It doesn't happen. Oooooookay.....maybe he already did, so I'm waiting for him to turn on the disco lights and pull me over? Nope! He just checked me out for about one mile and then peeled off to the left and disappeared. The rest of the drive home was, shall we say, "more civil" and I only got on it one more time before we made our final turn toward our neighborhood.
You guys forgot to tell me how many pairs of pants I'm going to go through driving this car!!! Yeah, and any recommendations for cleaning the leather?

Picked up my 12 year old from school in a viper and gave him a ride home. Two years later and he still has that grin on his face when you stomp second gear.
Congrats and Happy Holidays.

Good story, it is easy to visalize the HUGE ear to ear smile you would have had on your first run. It sure is easy to get seduced by the raw acceleration that these cars are capable of. That seems to be the first thing that will get ANY unordained drivers attention.
Use extreme caution when puting other plates on the car.
Although it has been done by many, if you get caught it is a serious offense in the eyes of the law, they don't take it lightly, especially in our "Golden State". Enjoy......

Dean,
When you get your registration and you finds yourself looking for a fun cruise destination, try the Ortega Highway. When I lived in Newport Beach, I drove it weekly. It's a haven for specialty cars and bikers looking for twisty roads and hairpin turns. Great fun but use caution, especially until you become more familiar with your car.

RedBarchetta,
I know the feeling. I am sure the smile has not worn off yet--don't worry, it won't.
It is one of the greatest feelings in the world to drive one of these beauties.
May you have many, many happy days in your "slippery saddle."
Man, just talking about it makes me want to ride again...10 degrees today
Congrats on joining the club!

Congrats....David is right, the smile won't wear off!
My wife told me that if I was 20 years younger, my car would be a "chick magnet", but at my age now it's just a "cop magnet".....
Oh well...............
Enjoy, and be careful!

Gots to take your chick with you to stay oughtta troubles...
Cheerleader and I just got back from a very brisk drive up to a biker/sports car hangout in the middle of nowhere up in the foothills (Humphrey's Station...good food). Nothing more elegant than a Burberry scarf blowing in the wind.
A goldish-orange-pearl Diablo VT (you never forget the color once you see it) was sitting there so I pulled up next to it. The owner had to find out everything there is to know about the car (read about these crazy Mormon kids going to Poland in the WSJ a few years back). Here he is with at least a quarter million in exotic machinery, and he wants to know about the freeking turkey pan and the puke tank lifted from a lawn mower.
Red...congrats. It only gets better!

Red,
Glad to hear that you and your son had fun. I have a 14 year old son and both of us have a big grin and have had since I got mine in July! My son has the mistaken impression that he will get to drive my car when he is 16. I told him when he is 45 (like me) and can afford one, be my guest.
Be careful and respect the power and you will have many years of fun to come.

Yup... if you don't smile while driving a Cobra, you must be dead!
Took my Cobra out on Friday. Put 60 miles on or so. First drive of the new year and only two days before the most recent ice storm!

Red,
Congratulations on your first ride. This thread has put a smile on my face just thinking about a first cruise.
Good luck and take care with your new toy.

RedB: Congratulations and good luck!!! Go slow, get to know the car and its power and handling idiosyncracies, and NEVER give it a lot of gas while making a sharp turn! Your Cobra will spin around faster than you can react!!!
