Its an interesting car. But just don't call it a Cobra. Looks more like a Miata to me...

It looks no more like a Cobra than the Mazda Miata. They destroyed every part of the body that made the Cobra look so nice. The front opening is hideous, the side is uglier than "hell itself", and the back is way to square.

If thats a "real" one - I'll stick to my "fake" one that looks more "authentic" than the new "real" one that looks "fake" but is "authentic".
All we need is for Evan to say it's not "real" and the universe will be right again.

Good question.
The Registry is part of the Shelby American Automobile Club. Since it's not being sold by Shelby, I would vote no. (altho the MK IV's are there .. )
If they put the Eleanor's in there next round, it doesn't matter any more, since that will render the Registry irrevelant.
If they made a big deal about the s/n, ala Saleen, and production was limited, I could see them making a special volume.
If they water it down and try to sell 20k units a year, I doubt it would warrant classification.

Looks like the fuel injection throttles are slide valves... Also looks like the engine is dry sumped. I would love to have this engine...

The engine is the only thing I like about the car. Ford should call the "new" Cobra, the "Aztec Edition" Shelby Cobra.

This car belongs with the GM family that wants it all.
The wife has her Pontiac Aztec....
The Husband has his Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck...
The sports car will be the "Aztec Edition" Shelby Cobra.

Well, looks like Ford finally got an all aluminum 390 in a Cobra. That's all I can say about it.

I have a feeling that by the time the bean counters and lawyers get through with this that, if it ever does get to a production vehicle, it will bear little if any resemblance to what we're seeing here.
Either that or it will be in the same price range as the GT40 so the availability to the "person on the street" won't be there.

2005 Mustang Shelby GT600
Now if they shoehorn that engine in the new 2005 Mustang, put some white stripes on it, sequential taillights, etc....I will be waiting the next day at my Ford dealership to order one.

Too plastic looking and too new retro. Looks like too many other cars already mentioned. I agree with KobraKarl, no side pipes? Even Dodge went back to sidepipes on the SRT! I agree with RaceDeck, the new Viper SRT dosen't have it anymore, it looks like a Honda S2000 on steriods. I'll Take my '95 RT-10 anytime! (Comforts, it has a heater and A/C. Radio is worthless over 3000 RPM). Way more thumbs up driving my "fake cobra". Brushed aluminum? Where's all the chrome? The car dosen't look very Fat or mean, and it looks like its standing still. The engine looks cool, but no air filter assembly. Hows that going to work? Viper went to Lambo for its engine design. I hope Ford is "listening" to all this "chatter" on the air waves, they need to go to "High Alert" status. Maybe the "New Cobra" will grow on me after a while, hope I'm not too old to drive by then.
Just my $0.02 worth.

Misc. Thoughts
- Nice to see, needs some more work on the styling
- zero impact on the replica market
- If it hits the streets for much under 100K I will be suprised
- They did a better job with the 40

Actually they did an incredible job with the GT-40 as far as looks go. Which IS surprising when you consider the "retro" styling thing currently in vogue.
The new Cobra is clearly a "retro" design thing. In that aspect it is not supposed to look like the original, and Ford acknowledged this. They stated that was not their goal with this project.
I wonder how/where the air cleaner is for that retro "Weber look" that have going on with the motor?

I moved this thread to All Cobra Talk so that the folks in Dearborn could find it easier.

Computerworks. re the Registry question...fyi, the New FORD GT coupe will be listed in the SAAC Registry....so if this roadster , or derivitive thereof, ever gets built with CS still involved it would be my guess that it too would be in the Registry. guess its too premature now to know either though...just speculation til it happens. bill.

Kinda wonder what the folks in Dearborn think actually-- and wonder to what extent current Cobra owners' wishes factored into their new design. Perhaps they figured that the existing Cobra owners were a small and not easily satisfied market (can you say "gashole?" )
I don't know what the market size is for Cobras of all stripes- perhaps it was just too niche for Ford to make a play for- or pehaps the figured they would get some prtion of new Cobra owners who want to get in the car and go, plus some theoretically larger market out there that would be shopping for a roadster of some kind, and writing off those who've already spent their wad on their current ride.
anyway...

If somebody had told me that it was the new two seat caddy, I would have believed it. To boxy and angular. Where are the flowing lines of the Cobra?
