It's a beautiful car... 0-60 3.7sec.
Nicely put together and the paint was great...
The 60's Cobras are one thing but I don't see the "new" Cobra competing with them... The new car will be a classic in it's own right.
I'd like to see a convertible top on it and some glass to keep out the elements.

I'd own one in a heartbeat... but I wouldn't give up my 289FIA...
It would be nice to have an all-season Cobra like that....

Almost all "modern" supercars are very nice looking and have the power to back it up. The Enzo Ferrari is one of the few supercars I would say is not good looking (the F-50 sure is...).

The new Cobra is "hideous" looking. The car looks like they forced the design of the car to not be too vintage looking. I read several articles on the GT and they all said that the designers kept trying to modernize the car, but it just kept destroying the looks. In the end everyone is very happy with the Ford GT and very unhappy with the "Aztec Edition" Shelby Cobra.

Mr. Cowtown:

With todays technology they could make the Cobra look almost exactly like the original Cobra. Any bumper system can be hidden under the body, just like it is on the Daisy Cobra.

Great show. I thought it was very well done and look forward to watching every week!

As for the Cobra... Though I first thought it was pretty bad, after seeing it at different angles, I lightened up a bit. I still think it needs a more pronounced "curve" shape, but it is a nice beginning.

I especially love the color combination....hmmmm wonder why?

I agree with Hersh...The images on the wall caught my attention!! Some pretty good designs up there had me wondering "why didn't they...?"

One observation and a different take on the show...

Personally, I had a very negative reaction to the press photos; after seeing the car in motion, and on the track, it has a new appeal... given the stated design goals, they didn't do such a half-bad deal. The car looks (to me) a whole lot better on the hoof.

Secondly, was anyone else fascinated by the process? It's obvious that every piece on a concept car like that has to be fabricated... but to see them cutting the blocks, making the gauges, etc was really neat. I have always been in awe of the clay modelers... that mock-up with the colored vinyl applied was amazing.

I think the chassis/engine department did a hell of a job and the body designers made the car look "hideous". When one has to look at the car 500 times and force themselves to say certain things look good then there is a problem.

The original Cobra has EVERYONE that likes it. The Chevrolet guys, the crotch rocket guys, the "ricer" boys, the mailman, the police, all people of all ages, you name it, they like it.

I also thought the process was pretty awesome, however the end result is the car is just plain ugly. It can be fixed! I got the impression that Shelby and the other designers thought it was the most beautiful car in the world, so I don't see them changing the body much.

If they left the GT looking very close to the original GT 40, there is no reason they had to screw up the Cobra. They made it clear that they think the car is the greatest new car on the planet. I disagree and would rather own the 600 horsepower V-10 "test mule" Cobra Mustang, period.

Rick, you missed it?? Tsk, tsk... Sorry, not sure when it will run again(same episode). The show is every Tuesday.

As to the show itself, very cool! I could do without the stupid, overpowering music that drowned out any one trying to explain something. Otherwise, I may have a new favorite show!

The "new" Cobra? Pretty impressive. I want to see it "live" to be sure, but I'm not so hot on the front view. Otherwise, it all looks good! I particularly enjoyed the scenes of the "test mule" Mustang just flogging that V10! DA-YAM!!

One can certainly tell a Ford(as in Bill jr.) is running things once again. So many great new products are on the way, with all the heritage, tradition, and performance to boot!

It's a great era for Ford enthusiasts!

It made the car grow on me a bit more. I'm sure it will be a great performance car, a real “bad a$$” like the Enzo and Lambos . Have to say I was pretty impressed but the scene where they had the 60's Cobra next to the Modern Cobra....the original Cobra is a icon that will never be duplicated.

Showing CS doing doughnuts in both cars was great!

It is all but impossible to re-create a 50's or 60's car given today's situation. Yes, they can hide the 5 MPH bumper under just about any skin but many other factors are involved such as aerodynamics, crumple zones, pedestrian friendly hoods, fenders, head lights, etc. (Can you imagine producing a 2004 version of a '57 Buick? The lawyers would be lining up waiting for the first person to be speared by the hood orament.)

The GT 40 was probably easier to re-create since it had such smooth lines to start with whereas the Cobra is much more "brick like".

I felt really good when they were trying to install the hood and found that a bolt was too long and had to be cut "by a couple of threads". I cannot remember how many times I had to shorten bolts by "just this much" when I was building my Cobra and I didn't have a team of engineers with computers preparing my every move for me.

Over all, it is nice to see Ford coming out with some trick automobiles for a change. Hopefully this will translate into sales which will then roll back the Jap invasion somewhat.

Winkler,....thats funny ...that is exactly what I was thinking....I have little doubt it would have been a much better looking car without his "trendy" input...


As the "bud man says....".its a start".....there may be time to backdate it yet..

The tools that the engineers and designers have to work with are simply amazing! To think that they went from an idea to a functioning vehicle in what, six months!

I almost agree with Ron, the car looks better when it is on video (moving) than it does standing still. But I still don't like the looks. To angular. But I still can't wait to see it in person.

(And yes, it was great to see the experts running into the same sorts of problems that I did while building my Cobra!)

My favorite part was watching Shelby roll out the three cobras. What must CSX2000 be worth? What were the vintages on the other two? The polished aluminum 427 looked like a newer one (shape) than the painted one???

If you don't like the car and think it is no big deal, check your pulse!!

It is far more impressive today against the current inventory than 1962 Cobra was against the competetion then.

No question about it, in motion the car looks much better!

Fabulous show, I really enjoyed it. Somehow I thought that dash gauges came from a "machine" or "magically appeared" from the Gauge gods, maybe "borrowed" from something else.

Blew me away when I saw them actually making the hands and the face for the gauges. Talk about fabricating every little detail!

In the sixties the Cobra was .....peerless,.......With 600 hp , the new one is a monster ,....but I would say the Vette and Viper ( just to name US models) dont really let this new cobra stand alone.

Ron,

Your observation hits with me. The process and the tools that they used were absolutely a draw.

I was particularly impressed with the machine that used lasers to create a plastic mold. I have seen these machines before and am still amzaed. It looks as if they are creating something from nothing.

I would be interested to know what nonCobra people (remmeber everyone on this forum LOVES the 60's style Cobra) thinks about the idea and design.

My wife told me that we should just get the new one and forget the old. I quickly informed her that we could get both.

Did the front look alot like the re-make of the T-bird? I loved the rear end view of the new cobra, but the front end left me wanting more shape, more rounded. I kept thinking it looks alot like the new T-bird from the front. (I am just talking about the front wheels forward).

I also enjoyed the making aspect of the show. I like watching un-wrapped for the same reason!
