I was impressed by the technology and apparent performance, but not the standing still look. It reminded me of a BMW Z3.

I think I might like the look of a Z3 with fenders flared for fat tires and a big honking V8 under the hood. If I can come up with an unused reptile name and enough funding to build a few, could I have people praising and hating me by the time I'm 81?

I will take the engine but not the car. The engine is a jewel. It sounds better than I thought that it would. The car lacks the classic rounded lines of the original. I will take the engine and put it in a "modern" replica and get the best of both worlds.

Some of the "rejected" designs looked better than the chosen one.

Nobody knows what CSX 2000 is worth, but we will all probably find out after Carroll passes.

As for the 427's, the bare aluminum car may be a McCluskey or Kimmons bodied 3000 continuation car, or it may be a 4000 series Kimmons car. Could be an original, but I doubt it. For certain it is not a Kirkham bodied car, as the nose shape was different (more elliptical). The red car could have been one of the above too, and perhaps even one of the 'glass cars; again, not a Kirkham.

I am not real fond of the new car, and as others on this forum have stated, saw some drawings that I, too, liked better. It does look a lot like the Audi TT. But to me, all the cars coming out of the design centers look alike. If you don't think so, study a car rental lot sometime..

Of course everyone knows that this is an early mule and to my knowledge hasn't even been blessed for production, so lots can happen, and personally, I hope something does. In the meantime, you can always buy a reincarnation of the beautiful '60's original....lucky us!

Looks like all three generations of the Cobra were present.
Blue, #1 (260-289) version
Red, #2 (427-428) version
Polished #3 (427SC) continuation series
,,,,just a guess on my part.

The estimated (computer calculated) top speed of 197 mph I think is on the "low" side. I doubt they will EVER run the prototype to anywhere near that speed anyway. They may test that calculated under 3.7 sec 0 to 60mph number however!

A production model? It will be a challenge to keep that 605 hp number all right without race fuel, in view of the minimal 390 cubic inch size for the engine. But I wouldn't rule it out, that is after all, the FIRST engine of it's kind! Why not bring that 390 up to speed with a bore and stroke? Uh,,,,,427cid sounds about right!

Bud,

I caught hood rivets in the polished car so you may very well be correct. I noticed the roll bar was interesting on the red car.

I'll tell you what I wouldn't mind having---that test mule Mustang with the V-10 in it!!!

I am with you on the 'Stang.....very nice

Looking forward to the new '05 Mustang. Have you seen the final production car? The clear rear 1/4 window is an interesting Shelby styling cue. Can't help thinking we will see a GT 350 Shelby. If we don't, it will be a shame, because I am ready to write the check...........

Now dont get me wrong
I am a CS #1 fan.....but
the car looked like a bastardized Viper v10 and a BMW with a Daytona hood thrown in for a kicker. I liked the performance, didn't care for the weight or the "spacey" interior.

CS smokin the tires was awesome, "cars are made to be driven"

Does today's 'Vette look anything like a '53?

It would really be interesting to see what a cobra would have evolved into today had it stayed in production. (Of course we'll never know). But to make a point, with each styling change, you gain some new admirers AND you lose some.

I can't think of another topic that has created so much chatter here at CC, not only this thread but several others as well.

Yup, I can't recall a single event that generated as many threads as this in such a short time! There was no attempt to contain the chatter in ONE thread, because,,,,,well,,,,,it just happened SO fast!

Hi my name is Tom and I have a COBRA.
Well if it goes into production, the new question in 2005 will be.
Is your Cobra REAL or is it a Mustang Cobra?
Most young (i.e. under 50) people don't know where England is let alone what A.C.Dutton was.
I'm glad that it will be 100% Ford and it will no longer have those expensive British parts falling off.
I guess I will have to go back to thoroughbred investing so i can get me one of those play pretties.
