That CSX2000 looks REAL sweet that was on the show. Wonder where that polished CSX came from? Pretty good footage already in 1st 15 minutes.

and it sounds good, too!
Whatever they did to the exhaust, it sounds like a Cobra and not a Viper - that alone begins to mitigate my reaction to the body!

It looks like another legend is born. Did they mention a price?

Did you guys notice the concept drawings on the wall ? I saw
a couple that I really liked that I thought was way better than the one they went with.
The whole time I was lookin' at that chassis I was thinkin JBL. Man!, I thought Richard was gonna show up any minute. The engine is a work of art. The rest of the car is something that will take time to warm up to.

I think the front of the car is boring looking. Doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't have the powerful look like the originals.

I thought it was a damn fine show. CS mentioning that he was going to enter the new Cobra in the local drifting competition, then doing donuts in both cars at the end, shows that he's still "in touch" with the latest in automotive cool, and still has "the touch" behind the wheel. Seriously, he's older than most everybody on this forum, and I know that there are guys on here who have never flogged their Cobra (no puns) like that! The old boy can still handle a whole lotta hp...
As far as the new Cobra goes, it looks much better in motion than standing still. Maybe could use a little work on that nose, though...but sounds awesome and definitely looks like a 1+ lateral-G machine.
Gotta give props to Ol' Shel, even if he was just the "overseeer"

I think the highlight for all of us is how truly remarkable in design and performace a 60s era Cobra really was. I'd still take a "tribute to that car" over what Ford is trying to do any day of the week. However, it is so good to see Carroll "kickin some year 2003/4 ass". I also think Ford is brilliant for what they did at SEMA, what they have done with the GT, the Mustang, and likely Ms. Daisy.

I am lukewarm on the body, but it's an interesting start.
Don't know if its a worthy successor to the original 427, but it's probably the car Shelby wished the Series 1 would have been.

For some reason I hadn't found a thread to respond to that would bring me to an even 100. I guess this is the time.
The car is definitely awesome and I strongly feel that it captures the cobra spirit. No top, no sideglass, no radio, no heater, 427 cubics inches, and a sound that I would kill for.
Will it become the legend reincarnated? time can only tell. First they'll have to produce it. Remember that the first cobra didn't exactly set any sales records. It was built to race. CS had to sell some to meet FIA requirements. It wasn't until most of us got past our lean years before we made the replica business successful.
As far as changes, I would round the front opening at the bottom corners and I would lengthen the area behind the rear wheel well a little. Other than that feel that the car is a great 2004 "interpretation" of what a Shelby Cobra might look like if it were first produced in these current times.
Should it even be "improved"? Hard to say. Should have the Babe's record been broken? Were the Babe's records actually broken? Different times mean different different conditions.
The bottom line is that there are going to be, no there already are differing opinions (see other related threads). and that 's probably the single most important value of this forum. We can air out our thoughts and feelings and in the end RESPECT remains no matter what side of the fence you are on.
I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

J Mays - is it just me ...
... or does he give anyone else the creeps?
He's like a cross between Eddie Haskel and Greg Marmalarde (Dean Wormer - "get Neidermier on it - he's a sneaky little sh!t like you").
I don't know why, but I get the feeling that when they were discussing the cockpit and dash with Shelby, and the paddle shifter option came up, that even though he made sure he shot it down in front of Shelby, it was probably his idea.

I just don't see any way the 60's cobra can be remade into a 21st century car and retain hardly any of the things that made the original such a radical thing of beauty. I mean, it barely met 60's compliance.
Just take a true to form cobra as we know it, add DOT things like 5 mph bumpers, airbags, crumple zones, and EPA exhaust, noise regulations etc etc.
And that daisy looks like stink weed to me
