Thanks for the advice everyone! Sounds like I'm going to make the trip WITHOUT a cover, that's for sure. Someone mentioned putting the soft top on for the trip, but I hear they come off around 65-70 mph. I thought about just going down with the tonneau cover on (and a good coat of wax!), but I was afraid of it flapping in the breeze as well. Maybe some masking tape in the right areas, under the tonneau would help (???). The deal with shrink wrapping the car has me curious.......sounds like it may work pretty well. Wrap the car up nice and tight and shrink it down a little tighter with a blow dryer......hmmmmm. Just may work! I may give that a shot.

Brian: I would spend some $$$ on a covered trailer.......but Dave took it all! I'm lucky I can put gas in the car! ;-)

Tony: put my e-mail address on your list for a contact when you get your trailer worked out. Sounds like it won't be before I leave for Florida (late Feb), but will it be done in time for DVSF?

Terry,

I drove my last Contemporary with the top on for roughly 350 miles without it coming off....Speeds were in the 65-85mph range without a problem. Not sure what the SPF supplied softops are like, but the Contemporary had a think soft velvet bottom on theirs.............

Bill: I've heard horror stories of the SPF tops coming off around 70 mph or so. I don't want to chance it! SPF came out with a new soft top about a year ago, that is supposed to be MUCH nicer, but I don't want to spend the $$ on one (about 900.00 bucks I guess)...... at that point, I would rather spend another grand and get the HARD top.

Terry,

To Hell with the covers etc.

Drive it there. That way you will have more fun than you need to. Towing is not fun. It is a chore.

We only tow to races.

That way if the body bag is needed, we have something to set it on and get it back to the shop.

I know that you are going to a show, but a driven car always looks best to real judges.

OH OH, I said real.

Terry there is another option for the shrink wrap idea. You should be able to buy a roll of the wrap they use to wrap up pallets of boxes before shipping. The stuff is flexible and will stretch to fit the contour of the car.

I have wrapped furniture with it when I got stuck moving it in an open truck on a rainy day. After 30 miles of rain everything was still dry. I don't know if maybe a mailbox etc. store or a U-Haul may have it. I got it from work.

I saw your Tailex (open) trailer last summer before you sold it to the Porsche guy in NJ. Great trailer - I specifically like the component build and weight of the trailer, but paying $13K for a new enclosed trailer is a little steep for me.

I like Tony's idea, but was hoping he was going to have his idea put together by now. Not that my car is a trailer queen, it is just more practible trailering the car to distant places under certain circumstances. I still have not figured how to put 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs in the car.

Could you not take your open trailer and bend aluminum tubes over the top and shrink wrap them? Then you could conceivably unbolt the tubes and lift the shrink wrapped cover off and save it for the trip home! Just an idea.

This is why at DVSF III I spent more time in the Expedition, than the Cobra...It's tough getting three people in to a two seater.....This year it may end up being just a father and son trip, or I'll grab the wife a rental for the weekend...............

Mike, it is a good idea, and I think that's where Tony is headed, but with canvas, not shrink wrap.

.......NOW you guys are talkin' my language: A home-made, "enclosed" trailer made with a shrink wrap "tent" of sorts. .......Or, in otherwords........CHEAP.
I'm likin' it. I may have to rig something like that up. It may look funny going down the road, but I'm just looking for something that works (doesn't have to be pretty!).
