I want to learn more about motors

Well, I know some basics, like how valves and pistons work, but I really want to learn the in depth stuff. Can you guys recommend a good resource for learning motors inside and out?

When I started my project I thought I knew everything about engines. I even rebuilt a few. Boy, was I wrong. I go to Barnes & Noble from time to time and check their "Transportation" section and buy the soft cover "How To" books. Amazon.com has a huge selection also. Any questions that the books don't cover can be answered by the CC members and the CC serch engine. Good luck, and welcome to the Club.

Go to a junk yard and buy the cheapest non-running (or running) motor they will sell you. Don't pay more than $100.

Disassemble it and learn a lot!

I'm assuming you mean not just theory but put your hands on stuff. This is a cheap way to do that and you will definitely learn a lot without spending much cash.

Hey Bill, I appreciate the reply.

Rlearp, I just want to know all the details of how an engine works- timing, camshaft, heads, valves, everything. I know some basics- I know how the fuel/air mixture gets sucked in, compressed, exploded, and then spit out into exhaust.

In the future, I am hoping to get a 2005 Mustang and do some nice engine hop ups, so I want to know my stuff. And in the long term future, I plan to have a nice 289 or 427 Cobra in my garage
