Frame/body insulation

I was thinking of using a rubber gasket between the frame and the body for sound insulation. Is this a good idea? I have access to 1/8 inch and 1/16 inch thick sheet rubber used for large gaskets. I could cut this in strips to sandwich between the frame and body. In addition, I was thinking of using a silicone adhesive to keep the gasket in place prior to setting the body on the frame. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Solid rubber is ok, but think about using a foam rubber. It will give a little cushion and do a littlt better with the sound transmission from frame/body. Most modest sized cities have a industral supply of something of the like and would sell this stuff in sheets or strips.

When I had mine apart I was able to solicit opinions from several rod and kit builders. I ended up with a canvas type belting 2" wide not unlike what a "Boy Scout belt" was made of. It was a fabric and not nylon. It took approx 30 ft to cover the various lengths of the chassis where the body actually contacts it. Previously the body sat on the bare painted frame.

What about when it rots away? Any repercusions? Thoughts?

I used the rubber stuff that some of the camper top guys use whe they install the shells about 3/16" sticky on one side not on the other.

Hi,
A&C kits use Walk-Off Mat between the frame and fiberglass. This works very well and will never rot. You can by it by the foot at Home Depot. It's a ribbed hard rubber and can be cut in any length you would need. It can be glued with general construction adhesive.
