Question What spark plugs are you using for your 427SO

I have heard that NGK is a good plug for older V-12 Ferraris. Does anyone have any experience with NGKs for 427 SO. Or should I stick with the Autolites???

Shin,

I can't really comment on the NGKs as I have never used them but I have used several other types in both my big block and stroker and kept coming back to the Autolites. I could see no gains at all in performance and the extra money was just wasted in my case. Also if you are runnig a Jacobs or MSD don't use any type of Platinum plug. Just the regular electrode type will work best.

Deamon,
Ngk's are a good brand. Ferrari and drag-race guys love them. I use Accel 416's in my Shelby heads, and used Accel 375's in my iron med.risers, as recommended by my machinist. They are trouble free and read very consistently. They are very similar to NGK's with their "U-Groove" ground.

My engine builder here in Denver recommends BF32's.
I am very happy with their performance in my C/O.

We use nothing but NGK in all our (19) school cars, (15) race cars, (3) Vans, (1) 4 wheeler, (1) golf cart. I think their the best, besides they gave me a neat bar stool for Christmas.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. My friends with Ferraris have all gone to NGK and swears by it. I run Webers so it may be close. My mechanic also recommends getting rid of the MSD and installing a hi-po distributor with Pertronix. What are your experience with that.

Which autolite plug? The only ones I see listed for the 427 is the AP 45 which is a platinum plug...

The car came with those "Split Fire" plugs. I've pulled them a couple of times under various conditions to "read them". No complaints, they doing a fine job and the motor revs to 7000 without complaint.

"Pro Control" rev limiter with "Mallory" electronic ignition and distributor.

NGK all the way.
Remember, their colder plugs are the reverse numerolgy as the traditional plugs. Check your heat ranges. Don't go too cold for the street.
MSD has always been my choice. Nascar run it. I have no experience with petronix.

Been using them in my 390FE for 5 years.. no foul. Years ago, the only plug my 1972 Corvette LT-1 could run. I love 'em...

Many years ago I worked for Echlin which manufactured and marketed the Accel brand (major component supplier through NAPA).

Back then, I think the Accel plugs were made by Bosch.

But of course, Echlin bought Mr. Gasket, merged with Dana, and was sold to Standard Motor.

Most likely the Accel plugs are made by NGK today. Only the best was sold under the Accel brand and their test labs were excellent.

Rick, I am not sure. I will find out when I take my car to be dialed in. I think he said that it was an option. Should I not do that?

Believe it or not I'm using the AP 45 Platinum plugs in my little 289 HI-PO. Tried NKG, probably a $100 bucks worth ofpug experimentation, and the AP45's are best for "my LB".
I have all MSD ignition, 6AL, Distributor, and coil.
Engine runs through all rpm better w/ the AP45
