Default Was the Gas cap cover placed in trunk of the 427 on some cars?

Last night on Muscle Car, Mr. Dupont ( I believe it was him) who apparantly has quite a car collection showed off his original 427. Nice. But interestingly it had the gas cap and nozzle inside the rear trunk and no outward sign on the body of a gas cap. He claimed that many 427s were built this way.

Is this true?

Only the "most original" originals were constructed this way. And they used a very specific rivet pattern to fasten the filler neck inside the trunk.

Wise guy.

No matter how hard I try NOT (CORRECTED) to participate in Non "REAL vs. Replica" subjects there is always some guy throwing chum in the water trying to bait me.

Real 1,

I can't answer this for certain, but I think that a couple of the first 60 Competition cars did have the fuel neck inside the trunk, but I believe they had to change them when they raced. I know that Ron (CW) can answer this for sure. Was this one of the first 60 cars that had the 40 gallon gas tanks? It seems, and I am just trying to remember here, that they were trying to reduce air drag or something by trying it this way. I am most likely completely wrong about all of this as I can't find the book that I thought I had which showed a picture of something like that.

Ron

Excluding the word NOT from above- Freudian slip?

No, it is not true. ..his may have been changed, though, over the years.

Maybe his car was recently retrofitted with a fuel cell, without his knowledge.

Actually, when the narrator proudly stated that there were only 50 427's produced and that, "sadly", only three remain.... I switched channels.

Perhaps he got that fact as well from Mr. DuPont.

When I flipped back to the show, it had morphed into an E-M infomercial.

Heck Evan,

It doesn't take much bait! Just keep telling yourself, "I'm getting better, I'm getting better, I'm getting better." Interesting about the gas cap thing; never heard it before.

A little off topic, sorry;

This show is a couple of years old... I called up EM when it was first aired. Brett said that the production company just showed up with no notice and they called a bunch of their customers to show up with their cars and that's why some of them were still applying the EM window decals.

But it was odd to see the filer neck in the trunk.
