Default What ever happened to the missing coupe owned by Phil Spector

I found a web site that told some of the story but left off the ending--it was last updated in 2001! Who owns it now? Is there a web link?

Anyone know the story or have a link for me?

Talking Some More Of The Story

My understanding is that Spector lost outright, and the rest, except Frederick Simone who has the vehicle with legal title, came to some arrangement re: the $2,000,000 or $3,000,000 split.

The question now is what is is Simone doing with the vehicle. Seen the question asked many times, but have never have seen an answer.

Thanks, Dave. I've been to that site--that's the one that was last updated in 2001!

I hope someone responds with this info and a source!

My understanding from SAAC is that Simone, a MD from Philadelphia, PA, is having the car professionally restored somewhere outside of Philly. Now that info is over one year old so I may be old news.

Since the uproar over the disputed ownership--widely reported in Autoweek magazine, among others--things have gone mighty quiet about the car. The last I heard, a few months back, was that the car was being given what the English might call a "sympathetic restoration"--i.e., a heavy-duty cleaning with replacement of deteriorated parts and an eye towards retaining every possible original piece. I certainly don't claim any inside track to info so that could be wildly incorrect. I had hoped we might see the car at some of this year's vintage events, like the Monterey Historics, especially since it was Ford's 100th, etc. No such luck. One of these days maybe all six Coupes will be reunited (along with the AC A98 and the Willment Coupe, while I'm wishing)--wouldn't that be a sight. Next year will be the 40th anniversary of Shelby's FIA GT Championship...

That's a good point. Given the fact that they were built in different locations over the course of two seasons, and given the disappearance of the Spector car fairly early on in the cars' lives, I don't know if they were ever in one place at one time. Perhaps at the time of the "Fire Sale" around '65 or '66. A couple of the Shelby books have a reprint of the flyer Shelby distributed at that time, listing the cars and parts for sale. I know it mentions the Daytonas, but I'm not sure if it says how many were available--

Default Missing Coupe

I spoke with a Gentleman by the name of Paul Andrews from New Jersey. He was selling Shelby Rollers on eBay. I am from the Philly area and brought the coupe up. He claimed to have spoken with Simone and that yes the car is being gone over in a very tedious fashion. I think a Movie should be made about the entire ordeal! Great Plot, Mystery, Death, Phil Spector- Robert Shapiro, ity has all the sparkle. I am surprised no one is on it!

A movie?! GREAT idea, except, can you imagine the fight over the movie rights?! You'd eventually have to make a movie about the making of the movie!
