That depends, the announcers indicated that part of the price was the "allure" of owning a "Shelby signed car." Earlier someone paid an extra $25,000 for a 59 corvette simply because the visor was signed by Nomar G (Redsoxs) & Mia Hamm (soccer). Lot of money for a visor.

Makes no difference what BJ is paid out of the proceeds. Point is what the buyer is willing to pay for the car. Point is that even when the "Rods" sold for big number it seems they usually had some big name in the Hot Rod world connected with the car or involved in the build. Thats the way it seemed to me.

Yes. "Names" did bring the money, but recongnizable names in the muscle performance world... "Z28", "Hemi", "Calloway", "Shelby"..

I'm just pointing out the obvious. After all I am the master of the obvious.

It would appear to me that a "name" makes a big difference. If for no other reason than the Contemporary going for so little and the Glass Shelby going for so much. TO much, in my opinion by the way. Hmmmmm,,,,,must have been the name, both were glass cars.

Point well taken Evan...I was just responding to someone who said that you could tell it was a glass car because of the "rough" finish on the underside of the hood. I was just saying, not necessarily.

What really surprised me was the continuation GT350 that went for 140K. That's a whole lot of money for a reworked 65 chassis no matter how much work there was. As for the economy holding back 400K for the 37 Zepher v12 Restorod seems like awfull good money.

I was there at BJ and there we some qaulity Cobra Replicas, including Shelby's booth full of the 4000+ series...Most of the ones I saw in the staging areas were "glass:.... Though Shelby had a few aluminum cars laying around....There we some beautiful GT-40's around too that pulled in fair cash.....I wonder what an "original" Kirkham would bring in on the block?

BTW: I looked over the ZEPHER and it is an amazing piece of work in every way....But....I would have rather taken the Black 32' that was built by Ray Kinney - An all aluminum hand fabbed boat tail car, full vented belly pan with a 296ci Ardun Ford V8...it went for about 150k...a much better buy in my book...

Dan: Wow! That seems quite low? Was it complete? From what I have seen over the years, the Kirkhams hold their value quite well?

Who Knows, this may just be the year for the Muscle Car and Retro Rod...Next Year all the craze may be for Japanese "Hot Rods"

This "kirkham motor sports" replica of the "highly sought after" 1965 shelby cobra is the "same" car sold in las-vegas at the shelby plant for $130,000. This shelby features an "original 427 cubic inch" side-oiler, numbers matching. Completely re-built and has "5" minutes on the motor. The transmission is a "tremac" all aluminum 5-speed with over drive and a close ratio shift pattern. Clutch is a 3-disk racing version with
"hydraulic assist". Feels like a daily driver. This car handles better than a new z--06 corvette and corners on rails. A steal at $100,000.00


It just goes to show that the bidders fancy changes yearly. Who knows what the marque will be next year or even if it will remain as strong at similar Kruse auctions.

I'm going to disagree with you Mr. Semko on the trend of boomers gravitating (i'm paraphrasing) towards 'muscle cars' etc. due to age or what not. I think its much easier than that. The big collectors gravitate towards low production cars with proven race history whether its drag racing, or FIA etc. Hemi, Callaway, Shelby, Yenko, ZL-1 etc. is simply pedigree and pedigree brings top dollar for the collector. I'm not trying to pick a bone here but I'm just commenting on some general thoughts by many that it sucks to be a pedigree whore etc. I can't say one way or another b/c I don't have a Cobra or a collectible but I know some people that do and unfortunately, right or wrong, pedigree, exclusivity and *gulp* flash (display) helps with any sale. Just my .02. I went to the auction with a guy that is only wanting a Cobra to complete his collection of Shelby's with big blocks. In his mind, glass is not an option and neither is a 289 as its too common, from his perspective. I personally love the hell out of the 289 and thought the SAI display was damn good looking. regards
