Sure you can sand and prep the underside of a glass hood to look damn close to a alum. car. But why would you do the opposite? The scoop was clearly molded in and the surface was rough and nasty who on earth would "glass up" the underside of their alum. car .
I figured Kris would step up and settle it. Now what do ST and I win?

Terry,
In that case we will hit Rich's place. If we have any time left we may stop and see what you got in the barn. Snowmobiles, bicycles ....we don't care.
The trip has to pay for itself, somehow! I have use of Jamo's trailer for a while, might as well put it to work.
I will take you up on the offer. Thanks. As soon as I get a running Cobra. This Spring perhaps.

That would be a great trip. Nite in Tahoe, up and over Kingsbury, bother the hell out of Rich, and back via Hope Valley-Carson Pass-Sonora.
Terry...expect the stench of Gasholes in the Spring!

Hmmmmmm......
I thought the announcers made an interesting observation in relation to the "age" question.
The antique cars, in general, are suffering from a lack of people who can "relate" that car in their youth. Of course there will ALWAYS be certain cars that will command a high price regardless of "age".
But the point was well taken and I have seen it happening here to! Old "classic" style cars (50's and 60's) simply don't enjoy the large market they USED to have! It IS becoming more difficult to sell a "very nice" but "nothing special" mid 50's or 60's car even now!
You got a 64 Galaxie for sale? It BETTER be a rare example and in pristine shape or you WILL sit on it for awhile.

wahoo.
"I went to the auction with a guy that is only wanting a Cobra to complete his collection of Shelby's with big blocks"
Give my name to your friend that's looking for a CSX to complete his collection. I may have just what he's looking for!

hey dan
thanks for the offer I take it that you can be persuaded? I have been trying to 'nudge' him into it as well. He is a very tough sell as he's been doing the car thing for 30+ years....ie, likes to buy low and see it appreciate. His perspective is that the market is still working itself out with the new cobra just released, the new Shelby's being produced in S.A. and such. Ironically, he bought one of his GT500 from Peter Kloot (sic) of Dream Car Garage about 15 years ago. Even funnier is that he didn't know he had a TV show-->he's quite a funny cat. He introduced me and the first thing outta my mouth was 'Love your show'. My friend was totally taken aback (doesn't watch much on the Bloob). Hope my posts weren't taken to be a smart ass...just banter
cheers

Terry: The Continuation series has the same "Shelby" provenance (source/origin) as the original series: Carroll Shelby. Its history as to construction is different. Also the original series has the distinction of being the series to make the car famous which give them that "added specialness or aura" if you will. They where there when history was being made. Some of the originals have the "history" of being particularly significant to the history of the Cobra by virtue of their racing accomplishments which make them even more special. Interestingly, this history also belongs to the Continuation Cobra as its history too. A family tree history so to speak.
Same car though. One new and available for purchase by the enthusiast at a relatively affordable price. One old, limited in number and very expensive because of there limited number.
Non Shelbys have no Shelby provenance.

He won't be able to buy it "low" but will be able to buy it "right" and watch it appreciate!

PK (Agitator):
My point was a minor one. But, just for the record, one obviously wouldn't "glass up" an aluminum car under the hood to make it look smooth, unless they were rather silly or uninformed. No need to live up to your title with me.
I think you missed my point much earlier in this very long thread. Someone was speculating that the B-J car in question was glass "because it was rough under the hood."
I simply said that roughness under the hood is not a good indicator of a glass Cobra replica, be it a Shelby or anything else.

JAMO / TURK,
THE OFFER IS GENUINE. JUST NEED SOME NOTICE. DO EITHER OF YOU DO TRACK TIME? IF SO NOR-CAL WILL KICK THINGS OFF AT THUNDERHILL IN APRIL. THE FLIP TOP OR THE DRAGONSNAKE SHOULD BE THERE. AFTER THE HISTORICS IN MONTEREY THE "FLIP" NEEDED ALITTLE WORK, BUT IS ALMOST DONE.

Hello All,
I was not able to attend the Barrett Jackson event this year for the first time in four or five years but kept fairly close track of what was going on by TV and cell phone. It was a very successful show as a whole and had fantastic attendance figures.
One thing to keep in mind is that at the end of the day that these auctions are events and hipe is a big part of what brings top dollar. That is why the values of specific models vary from year to year (25th Anniv, 40th Anniv, 50th Anniv, etc.).
Shelby and SAI have been very successful in the auction arena for several years and for several reasons but I have to say that showmanship, exclusivity and resale value have been some of the major contributors to that success.
A few major examples of Cobras sold at events in the last few years:
Number 1 of 40, 40th Anniversary Ltd Edition, aluminum bodied 427 Cobra- 2002 Kruse Event in Las Vegas price $210,000.00
Number 2 of 40, 40th Anniversary Ltd Edition, aluminum bodied 427 Cobra- 2002 Kruse Event in Auburn price $135,000.00
Number 2 of 40, 40th Anniversary Ltd Edition resold at the 2003 RS Event in Scottsdale $175,000.00
Number 1 of 10 CSX4000R Composite Bodied 427 Cobra Racer- 2003 Atlantic City Event price $198,000.00
Over the course of the past 7 years we have sold CSX3000 cars for $410,000.00 and $385,000.00 at auctions. Standard CSX4000 glass cars have sold for $95,000.00 to $135,000.00 and standard aluminum cars from $105,000.00 to $155,000.00.
The market at these events is made in the months prior to the event, the support of the auction house is crucial and of course anniversary or limited editions draw high dollar if promoted properly.
One specific instance of a car that brought high dollar through hipe was a CS Special Edition Series 1- 2001 Barrett Jackson Event Scottsdale price $250,000.00. This was a beautiful car with options that were only offered on one car out of a run of 249, the average retail sales price of the other 248 Series 1 cars that were produced including options was $117,000.00.
The bottom line to many of these sales are I want it and I have enough $ to out bid you for it. Take a look at the '56 Vette that sold for over $100K, it was a Cincinatti fan not a car collector making an investment.
I have to say it is fun to attend these events and it does not hurt any of our egos to see Cobras go for big $, even though most of us can only afford to drive our replicas no matter what brand they may be.

The person that mentioned it was me.
And I understood what you were saying. "You can make a glass hood look just like an Alum. hood ergo the hood is not a good reference point.
My point was while that is true, this car clearly had a glass hood ... sooooooo it was most likely NOT an Alum. car. If it had a smooth underhood, you're right it would prove little.
And the Agitator thing is kinda a joke

Terry K:
Just remember to tell Turk and Jamo to lay off the "frat" antics when they are around Rich; otherwise, it may be the last time you get to take a seat in the Flip Top. Surreptiously placing a Gashole sticker on the back of the FT would probably not be a good idea.

Terry K: I'm not suggesting that the CSX 4000's should be bought as investment vehicles or that you should replace any vintage collectibles with them. Not yet anyway. They do, however, seem to do well on the auction block.
When the original Cobras were produced no ever thought they would be a wise investment as to future value either. Couldn't give'em away for a while. Remember?
Who knows what the future may be. Did you ever think a production Z28 Camaro would sell for over $100K?
It is interesting that some Continuation Cobras have sold for at auction for more than or near the same as what some original 289s can be purchased for. It may be that many buying them see them as genuine Shelby Cobras and not replicas of one.
Time will tell.
In the mean time I drive and enjoy mine.

Cal,
I have met Mr. Mason. You'd be surprised how well we can behave around adults when we have to. Don't you worry about a thing!
We have NEVER placed a sticker on anyone's car without their request that I remember. We don't have that many too waste.
Terry, we WILL behave! Promise. We will brush after dinner, and even not speak until spoken to.

Hmmm....
Gee, I don't Turk...I don't think we can behave that much. Maybe we'd better not go.
Sure seemed like Rich thought we were ok at SAAC last year at Ontario, the NorCal Mininats and at Monterey. Not our fault Smith dumped some oil as a joke.
