If a Superformance Coupe buyer wants the ultimate power he should give us a call. We will also help him set up the suspension to make it stick. I have heard that most Cobra's are set up for street use and have issues on the track. We readily can rent track time locally at VIR, Carolina Motorsports park and Hickory. THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT YOU WILL SEE AND FEEL YOUR CAR ON THE TRACK WITH AN EXPERIENCED WINSTON CUP TEAM AS YOUR PIT CREW.
Our website is going to have a major renovation soon but can be viewed at www.lastlap.cc

always interested in track time, the gentleman facing away from the camera standing by the right rear of the Coupe is Bob Olthoff, a very successful Coupe driver back in the '60's. He was a chief tech engineer on the Brock Coupe above. Bob Nagstad designed the suspension on the Coupe, he also did the original cars. Pete Brock penned the original and the replica by SPF.
Hope to meet up with your folks sometime.

puckering
I dont have 600 hp around 450 and let me tell you these things can get away from you in a fraction of a second. I was accelerating and really got on it in a desolate country road straightaway and the road had a little bump in it right as I hit third the rear end broke loose and my a$$ puckered right up almost as quickly as I let off the accelerator. Its the short wheel base and high horsepower when combimed make it unforgiving. Then again you can kill yourself on a 50cc scooter if you dont use your head.

RPM,
Yes, building race cars and the inherent dangers of such cars on a track are one thing and I understand your point above entirely. But now, your building a high horsepower motor for a Cobra( a light weight, short wheelbase(90", think about that for a while) vehicle not designed for such power, no matter how you set up the chassis), one most likely to be used on the street. Leading you down a whole new road to what is, and what is not considered product liability. It's not about you or your company (which by the way I've followed for quite some time), as it has a great reputation, it's about what a lawyer could do to your company if and when this product hits the streets, and if and when someone gets injured, or worse, killed..........I'm no lawyer, but I would still suggest the disclaimer that your engine is built for racing purposes, and as such, is not intend for street use (at the very least).....Too many stupid people out there (the 18 year old who died last week for instance) who think they can handle it all, and nothing will ever happen to them because they know if their own minds that they can handle it all (vicious cycle don't you think). Ok, I'll stop my rambling, I've made my point somewhere above...Either you get it, or you don't.............As the smart businessperson you are, I'm sure that you did...................Here is wishing you the best...........
Sincerely,
Bill S.

Racing business is hard work and sometimes not as profitable as one might think. You guys seem to be a select bunch. We have worked real hard to get to where we are. This is an exploration into a new market because we have the ability to make cars work. I have seen a lot of Cobra's that are cosmetically nice but, I wouldnt put my behind in them with 200hp in fear of death. If you make a safe car it doesnt matter how much HP you put in it as long as it is well balanced and the driver is educated by us. So, Bill S. if you are concerned come on down and we will make you safe and you'll go faster than you ever dreamed.
John M. Tell us what you need and we will get you a quote. There are a lot of cup motors from teams that didn't make the grade financially.

RPM, I have been running a 660+ hp 358ci, yates headed cup style motor. The 660hp was with a 750 holly flowing 750cfm on the dyno. I have a 1050 cfm throttle body on it with 48 pound injectors so it could be making more power allthough as you know, there is no way to tell unless we dyno the motor. As for handling setup, I am running no rear bar with fairly light rear springs and stiffer up front. It has a pretty big push but that helps get the power down. You can watch the video in the all race talk section Road America.I have preached on this forum that the best way to buy a motor is from a competent builder that will dyno and break in the motor. I have only adjusted valves, changed plugs and oil in 3 years. I am wondering about the valve springs. Our sessions are for 20 minutes, so they don't get thrashed for 2 hours and the rpm is only 8000. Your comments? Scott

When it comes time for me to financially step up to the plate and go the "real" race car route, I will most certainly give you guys a call. As for now, I'm perfectly happy with what I have, and the way the chassis is set up (I have access to a local Nascar Busch North Teams shop and supplier) for what I'm doing with the car......My concerns are not for my own, but for your company, as you delve in to putting NASCAR power to the public streets. Regardless of how well you prep and set up the chassis, if the driver has no real world experience with a short wheelbase car such as the Cobra (90"), and that much power at his finger tips (figure of speech), then he can and will get in to a world of trouble. By allowing your company to work on such a car, then placing it in the hands of the ignorant (yes, I am assuming that the potential owner has no experience in a overpowered Cobra), does open your company to a liability issue should that owner get killed, or worse yet kills someone.....My thoughts of this are of the "disclaimer" you need to have written and signed off on to keep your company from ever getting dragged in to the potential lawsuit that would erupt should the foreseen happen...Again, we are talking about putting this "cobra" on the street, not the track.............Just look at what happened to this "New Cobra Owner" . Click on the linka nd read up on it, then you might get my meaning after all.

RPM,
Looking for motors for use in SCCA/AIX road racing venues in Cobra and non-Cobra applications.
Looking for complete build, testing/tuning (dyno), no BS bulder that stands behind what he sells. We have a number of folks in the NE looking for someone good to build race motors. Many have been screwed in the past and are looking for a new, reliable source.
I'll get in touch when I'm ready. In the interim, a website would help me build an understanding of your services.
Thanks,
JM

Billy Andrews at HRE Motorsports has sold a Bill Elliott Edition with NASCAR engine in the Shelby CSX4000 series for several years. These are special edition vehicles. Talk to him about handling. Contact him through Shelby Automobiles in Vegas. Bob Marsh can put you in touch if you wish to talk about the performance and handling.

Someone down here mentioned those cars a while back. As I recall, those never raced at the time of our conversation and seem to have been purchased on speculation as show cars. If you have any race data, we woud be curious. Does Bill Elliott have one? If so, we will get over to see it..

JM,
Yes, this is the same company. I assumed (yes I know the joke) that Steve Sunshine clued him in to this website and the potential market for his cars......

Why would anyone need that much horsepower in a Cobra especially for street use?
Most guys can't handle the full potential of Cobras putting out 420hp to 500hp (original spec power outputs) and live to tell about it. What the reason for over 700hp?

Hal,
I assume you may be following this thread since you posted. I have been meaning to ask you, in the past (forgot if it was here or on SCOF) you mentioned picking up some "2nd hand" NASCAR parts from a shop up in NC. I think it was your accusump or oil filter stuff. What is the name of it and do you have number/website? I am also interested in economical CUP car stuff and always looking for sources, although I am extremely happy with Elliot's shop so far. Just never know when I may need a second source for stuff.
